i playing for 6mths n got no guitar.

i have a handful... i dunno y the need to convince, cos u asking her to buy u another 1, or u nd to get clearance from her to buy with your own money?

if u actually bothered to work during the last sch holiday (note tt i dun mean working part time during sch term) to earn some money for that and scored good grades during last exam, i respect u... i did that during my sch days...

don't be so pretentious bro... the money that i want to spend to buy a second guitar is money that earned working as a swimming coach's assistant and savings. my parents taught me the value of money. after all, my family used to be extremely poor (my grandmother+mother used to run a stand selling cigarettes at a train station in indonesia). i worked my butt off waking up early and traveling to woodlands (from marine parade) every morning during my holidays to work all day.

my mom just doesn't see why i want more then 1 guitar and does not want me to spend my money. she also doesn't see why i want to buy a guitar in japan when we will be in japan soon.

edit: and just fyi... i paid for my first guitar with my own money

Anyway, is there reason as to why you need another guitar? Amidst the thoughts put in here, there are some pretty valid ones eg. economics.

Maybe understanding the reason as to why you need to get one and what you currently have will help to worm out a reason to convince your parent to let you get your 2nd guitar.

Of course easier said than done, since to non-guitarists, a guitar is a guitar is a guitar.

I have a Cort X-6. It's basically an Ibanez H-S-H floyd rose model. I've been playing guitar for over a year (on my sister's acoustic) but I only bought an electric guitar August (so 7-8 months ago).

I'm planning on getting a Swing Prism. Why? My Cort is decent at playing rock and metal but it's not that great at playing "lighter" music. And since I'm starting to play a lot more blues and jazz, I wanted something that could handle it. Also, I like SD pickups. And this guitar has great value for money. My other choices were an Edwards LP and a PRS SE Custom Semi-Hollow Soapbar.

If you have the financial capability and the space, then who cares if you have so many guitars. Go for it, if you like the guitar.

Sorry for missing out on your earlier post. The flurry of replies gets distracting.

I think the dilemma is not so much whether you need it, cos you know you do, and you know the specs needed for the kind of tone you need (I personally say go for the Prism).

But try shooting those reason off to your parent. As I said, to non guitarists a guitar is a guitar is a guitar. Thing is, I don't think telling her how many guitars others have would work either.

Maybe should have posted the title of your thread as "How to convince others that I need more than 1 guitar?" or something to that effect. Your title kinda sets off this floodgate of "I have this and this and this and this and this guitar" replies.

Considering your situation, I kinda understand why she is very particular about your expenditure. On one hand, it's a substantial sum money we are talking about. But then on the other hand, it's your money we are talking about.

For some of us, it's easy to say "Just get it". For others, the choice gets really hard. Real life necessities and practicalities vs a passion that could maybe, just maybe change your life.

Solution? I believe we have no real position or solution to help you, honestly.

thats my mom's principle. do what i want, as long as its not wrong. my money my problem. she doesnt intefer with my financial life. lolol. thing is she usually dont understand why things cause so much. but fortunately, she's adaptable.

anyway, i forgot if i answered anot. 2 guitars. les paul n X-shaped guitar. reason for 2nd guitar: i want something totally opposite. though both guitars have humbuckers.
