End buying more guitars for i play on diff tunings, the only prob is that you must have some 1 carry your extra guitar for you.

G.A.S. is really a serious mental illness.
I think we should have a G.A. (Gas Anonymous) on this forum to help those who are totally addicted to GAS.
I must admit that I'm into collecting anything with strings (I mean musical instruments , not kites and undergarments ;)) and this obsession is taking toll of my life. Affecting work , family , even health)
Spending too much time on this forum is the first sign....sorry guys!
But I guess some of you out there is in full control of the situation.

Please help. Mr Sub. I think you are handling this very well.
Some advice would be great.

its good to have different kinda of guitars.

Yup. :)

I have 6 guitars.
One Acoustic.
One Semi Acoustic.
One Ukelele :)
One Yamaha tuned to standard
One Schecter tuned to Drop D
One Samick, er, this one extra only lah. A gift from my uncle :)

Maybe reason is because I don't like to keep tuning my guitars lah. So troublesome. haha

Well, I have 3, only because I want some versatility in my arsenal. If I can find one guitar that can do it all tonally, I would be very happy. :) Basically, my current gear is a Fender Strat '62 Reissue, an Ibanez Jem Jem77dbk and a Gibson Les Paul Classic Premium Plus. Each offers something unique that the other 2 do not.

Was shopping around for a semi-acoustic yesterday but having second thoughts.

When i was still depending on my parents for pocket money, I only have 1 electric guitar. Played the best I could, to make the best out of it.

Now that my parents are depending on me, I have a few, simply becos i could afford it, not that i need to have more than one.

I have a 4 guitars and I'm damn upset about it. Only 1 gets the most play time. Another one sounds the best. The other one gives the best rawk out vibe. The last one is an acoustic guitar.

I don't see the point in having many guitars because I don't play for a living. I don't in a recording studio every other day. I don't have the time to truly excel on different guitars.

I am friggin fickle.

Agreed, but playing guitar is a big part of my life that can't be ignored, even my wife complains that i spend huge amount of time playing & buying.

heh, the rate we are going, the thread might be just flaunting how many geetars we have, but not exactly too useful on convining others(who might have absolute no idea on music and not interested in our music nor believing what we are doing, aka playing geetar is useful) on why we need more than 1 geetar

imho

the reason i have 3 guitars is simple. my V is my main axe and i use it most of the time with my band Roadkill (cos i go put masking tape on the body and wrote Roadkill on it:mrgreen: ). my ML is my back up and the SG is to play more laid back music like pop rock and stuff like that

15 I think.

I try to give them equal playtime by rotating them each week but there are some clear favourites. At the moment it is the $300 ESP Ltd. KHJR which i have been playing constantly since I got it, while a several-thousand-dollar Tom Anderson sits in its case largely untouched.

People own more than one guitar for several reasons. For me, when I started, I wanted a decent 'one of each', i.e a Strat, a Les, a pointy headstocked metal guitar, a decent acoustic, etc. but that soon got out of hand.

er..i have an epiphone les paul, samick strat, yamaha classical. one more coming up. a diy guit. as u can see, u need different guitars. dont buy all the different varaitions of les pauls. cos....well. u dont need so many.

Dunno how many I have, prob about 20 +, if you dun count the basses and EUB.

If you need to justify how many you NEED... (to your parents or wife)

For Electrics - You really can't do without at least 1 of each: PRS, Gibson Les Paul, Fender Strat,...

For Acoustics - You also have to have at least 1 of these: Taylor, Martin, High-end Yamaha, Yairi, Simon & Patrick ....

Then there's Jazz Arch Tops, you can't be a real guitarist unless you've got a few of these - Gibson, D'Angelico, D'Aquisto, Epiphone...

Then there's the group of misc types that no good guitarist shld do without such as
- Resonator Steel Guitar (For playing Slide Blues Guitar), Twin neck guitars etc...

So before you know it, I've been doing the collection for 20 years and I have all of the above and more. But there's a price: - maintenance..... keep them well esp if you intend to display them:
- remember to keep the room dust free with a filter
- keep humidity stable with a dehumidifier
- otherwise keep them in their cases

I got 2:

- mahogany bodied super strat with H-H, tuned to standard D.
- alder bodied FAT strat (H-S-S), tuned to standard E.

Both having very different tones, and utilised for different type of music. They're not indulgences. They're necessities.

Both will be heavily modded. Some people say that it's better to get a new guitar with all the stuff I want, but for me, its partly the personalisation that gives my guitar their identity as truly Mine. And the thing is so far, there are NO guitars out there that can match what I want.

Will be getting a third guitar that will allow me to go to lower notes. Still deciding whether I should get a 7-stringer or a 6-stringer tuned in a unique tuning I got from a somewhat obscure band, heh.
