how bad is NS?

Young men, don't complain so much about NS! In my days, our food comes seasoned with grasshoppers and other high protein creatures, we cannot even talk to the person sitting beside us during lunch or the duty sergeant will take away our food, we pull grass with our bare hands during gardening every Saturday, we "stand-by cupboards" (ie bring cupboards all the way down to the parade square and fall the cupboards in), we have only 5 minutes to shower (entire platoon in about 10 cubicles)......

Actually, I manage to pick up the guitar when I was in the army. So it's not too bad.

But one good thing about NS is meeting people.... i met up with a lot of musicians from different genre in army.... den best is when everyone has a guitar.... at nite go smoking corner hav acoustic jam... so many times kana knock it down cos 12 to 1 am like tt we still down there playing... this kind of thing not recommended to 1st yr soldiers... dun test water... ..2nd yr u know how throw verbal smoke bomb den do.....

All I can say is that although I'm a reservist Captain, I hate the SAF like hell. Already downgraded to PES E but still called back to do admin work.
Up to 1 month per year. F**K SAF.

Dont complain la, NS nowsaday very good liao. 5 days week(except those gonna weekend guard duty), good pay, got place to sleep, food to eat, ocassionally go outfield do some mission, go jogging as u like during freetime, after 5pm book out. Where to find this kind of life?? Even best is now, no more ali baba bag, give those travellin bag, free sandals....wow... :x

welfare nowdays...truelah..more empasis on soldier's safety n well being..
but still...it's time consuming lah. we could've been doing more outside then inside. i made friends with musicians too in camp. had acoustic jams at smoking corner...normal lah all this thing..have to entertain ourselves while doing "time".

my advice is..make the most out of the time that you have lah. no use complaining bout NS..cos even after u ORD still got like 15 more years of reservist life. lol. (get pink ic also like no point sometimes but better than the green one)

i was in the police force.
the bmt is like holiday challet. just jog here jog there. after 5pm, it's like happy hour, sit down, talk cock, play guitar, sing song, watch movie/tv @ mess.
the only thing i don't like is the food & we cannot go out of police academy.

after that posted to division. go patrol walk here, walk there.

nothing much. can study part-time some more.

i dunno bout u guys but hey i think NS is good im only 14 and im looking forward to it though im taking mine in the US. but at least it helps put ure life together.u stay fit and with dat in mind u will feel better. more energy to play harder too so remember tis mroe of a mental challenge keep ure mind focused and u shud have no trouble i guess

NS is the only time you don't have to worry or even think about or plan your life. it belongs to the gahmen. but my NS life was rather torturing, till it ended.

bmt's paradise. then i was posted to 10th brigade recce coy. sianz. like OCS like that, training and courses for 10 blohdy months, including that stupid POW and jungle survival training, and got a scar on my right wrist as momento. boooring.
no nights off or out till i was a 2nd year soldier. coy's small so whenever report sick / accident / training injury - all have to take extra duty.

so i can't see why pple can be eager to get enlisted LOL.

esp NCC. you know, the gahmen pays you to go NS and suffer. but NCC, man, they pay the gahmen to suffer.
