Hot pickups in JazzBox?

Need some help here....I have an epi joe pass

Really2 love the clean sound, the weight and the look. But it doesnt suit my band's music(I play rock with hi gain)..Tried to let it go but I guess due to economic situation, people offered me some really low prices....

So, I guess I just keep it and mod it to suit my needs. But my question is : Does it possible on the first place

I'm thinking of putting Duncans on it. 59 in the neck and another hi output on the bridge(most probably JB or Distortion)

Is it possible?will it create a feedbacking nightmare, etc??

hye bro,
try the GFS pups
check out the guitar fetish website. its affordable too.
Its hard to not get feedback on a hollow bodied guitar. a noise gate could fix that.

Reez, do you have another guitarist in your band?

I wonder if it is possible to rearrange/compromise on the external stuff before coming to the guitar.

Because, modding a guitar to suit your needs... only goes as far as what the guitar allows. You don't see hollowbody jazz boxes in hard rock bands and you don't see Ibanez RGs in jazz bands.

Thanks bro...GFS...hmmm....the problem about buying pickups is the fact that we simply can't test it...Tried quite a numbers of pups before so far I like 59+JB best....that's why I'm looking to put it in again...

Mr. Shredcow....Difficult man...Yes my band has 2 guitarists but both of us always play with hi gain so I think it's abit no point...If I compromise the songs according to the guitar then my other guitars will be redundant...

But, yeah man you really got the point....jazz box meant for jazz but I'm still curious what will happen if you put hi-output pups in it

Oh, you have a few guitars?

Then why not keep this guitar for a more appropriate song? Say, a ballad? Or something slow... something more ambient?

Also, no way for the 2nd guitarist to do the whole heavy-as-heavy-can-be thing while you play something else? Maybe do some (cliché I know) clean shimmering stuff behind a wall of gain? Re-arrangement, not compromise?

Hi TS, really nice guitar you got right there Just wanna highlight that the JB and 59 might work on other guitars, but not on yours. So yea, I think you gotta try it yourself. All the best dude, and happy new year!

using high output pickups on a hollow = infinite mess of uncontrollable feedback.

use another guitar.

oh and you can try and tape up the f-holes to reduce the feedback a bit.

hey reez, you said you love the clean tones of the jazzbox, and you own other guitars. Isn't your solution right in front of you? DON'T use the jazzbox for high gain purposes! personally i think if you're going to put high gain pups on the jazzbox, you're going to seriously alter the tone of it - you won't be getting nice sweet cleans anymore. and if you're going to chuck it through some high gain pedals or amps, you'll be getting more ear piercing feedback than the Jesus And Mary Chain. Sure, that would be pretty awesome if that's what you're going for but I suspect that's probably not your intention.

Also, more importantly - how the hell are you going to do guitar swings and flips with a jazzbox?

Dude, keep it as it is and use it for layering, textures or maybe even learn some jazz on it. Or sell it when the price is right. Change out the pups and you'll probably regret it. You shouldn't try to fit a square peg in a round hole.

Danelectrico : Yeah man...I tried to do standing guitar action ala zakk wylde on it....it looks pretty weird..haha...learn jazz?hmmm...I learned it before but i didn't enjoy it...Somehow i don't get the high feeling as when I play rock...tho I like a few numbers from George Benson
