High Gain Distortion Recommendation

The Openhaus would probably cost 600-700 sgd not including shipping and tax. The thing is a good pedal might sound less-pedalish but it will still sound like a pedal. The best way to get a true tube distortion is by using a tube amplifier.

This is my opinion , if your willing to spend that amount for a pedal that sounds less pedalish. I would rather save trice the amount get a ENGL combo and a THD hotplate and get all balls disortion. But thats just me.

You can also get a Krank JR ( i never tried it) costs like 1.2k more or less.
Being honest you will never find a pedal that sounds non-pedalish. Goodluck in your search.

The openhaus costs $375 USD and shipping is $41 USD, which works out to a total of $600 SGD or so.

NachociousD:
Many of us do aspire to own humongous tube stacks that chug when cranked, but I guess this just isn't practical in Singapore where we mostly stay in apartments, which lack basements/attics/garages. Even if we somehow find the space for the amp itself, the high volumes required for true tube distortion will have to be dealt with. Sure, attenuators can be used, but you'll end up paying at least 2-3K for a rig which won't be portable.

Thank you everyone for your recommendations and advice on this topic.

The thing is, purchasing a smaller tube amp and an attenuator would really set me back alot. My budget isn't big enough to cover that.

Maybe a few recommendations on a good solid state amp would be better?

I'm willing to spend 300-400. Anything slightly above i wouldn't mind considering too.

Then i'd work on the pedals. Because currently i think the changing of my amp is of higher importance.

Chow ever considered the vox night train? ;)

Get an amplifier with a 12" speaker. Maybe a Randall V2XM.

Or an amplifier with good cleans, Fender Frontman and Vox Pathfinder.

The pedal i'm looking for is one that i can use alone on my clean channel, giving me heavy modern tones, such as those on a VHT or an Engl.

Hey dude....if you like that sound...why not just save up for an actual VHT or ENGL?

Saves you the trouble of having to assimilate every pedal....cos when you use the pedals with different amps....its definitely not going to be the same :)

Nice meeting you jms and faizal the other day....hope you guys had a blast with the jeff beck strat and 7th with a Fender Hot Rod

VHT and ENGL r really nice amps......i guess big amps r out of question for u, so go for their combos, heard the ENGL combo at blackwoods once.....damn it was sweet! But if u want something thats more old sch and affordable, i would say the ceriatone tmb 18watts combo, freaking sweet and loves pedals as well!

I've heard the review by Guitar World on Youtube. To me, it sounds just great!. Especially the distortion channel. I haven't heard it live yet though.

Hmmm the valvetronix to me sounds average imo......not a bad amp per se just not that inspiring. If u wanna try vox, i would recommend the new AC4 combo, Night train (need to buy an external cab), an AC15 combo, Blackheart L'il Giant combo r all below $800 range and full tube amps. If u like Marshall i saw someone posting a JCM 2000 DSL 201 combo , full tube and all the marshall crunch for like $600 or less.....pretty gd bargain.

astaroth - Did you get your metal monster from Blackwood? I'm looking to test one!

mus - I see. Thanks for your input! I'd check the video out.

MrBukka - I'm afraid a full tube amp is out of my budget. I'm only willing to spend 300-400 or so :( Searching for a good solid state now.

Hahaha to each his own bro, to each his own.....btw ryan the Vox AC4 seems like a great full tube home practice amp at $300 geez its even cheaper than my blackheart, i am sure ized can be testiment to that too.
