Have I been conned?

The solution is simple.

Just DON'T give them any money! Don't even get into any conversation with them. Just smile at them and move on!

Let their own religious body/organisation assist them in their own way.

My personal experience: I was eating at a hawker centre and an able bodied guy (listening to hearing music from and iPod) approached me. He gestured to me by stretching out his hand and putting it near his lips (He requested money for food). I just smiled at him and I told him I would give him $20 for his iPod. He f**ked off!

Chester:
Correct me if I''m wrong but from your post,it seems to make a big difference to you that the driver was Indian..maybe you should ponder over whats REALLY bothering you.
Seems kinda redundant to criticise Mr.Indian Driver instead of Mr.Driver and then ask Indians to not take offense, nevertheless none taken for the above....but then adding a footnote about the Indian Drivers' Bad english...??Friend...plz....Singaporean colloquial english has never really been grammatically correct nor has it had a lack of slang....so there...I do take offense, you should probably just talk about drivers' bad english...
I have had bad experiences with drivers of all races kinds etc....the only drivers who have always been nice were the lady drivers.... :D

not really the kind of arguement worth dwelling upon....propose the thread be closed :)

lololololol nice.. Beefy.

Dont close, i'm really enjoying these stories. just try and keep it clean so it dosnt offend anyone.

cheers

LOLLL!
I dun think real monks will ask for money this way...
I realize this fact that real, modern monks are mostly uni grads..educated peeps 8) just like the 1 on tv

No offence but some conmen are foreigners...Can figure out they aren't local from the way they speak chinese..if they are chinese

Hmm.

I'm no fan of buses cuz of the driving (yes.. I've experienced the typical application of Murphy's Law when riding buses).. hence I take MRT! LOL.. but MRT still expensive.

Why is public transport getting so darn ex? We're only students lah. Even then it's not right to jack every fucking thing up *just because "all other alternatives have been considered"*.

Maybe we shud suggest MPs and the ministers ride the MRT to work every day.. see how they like to pay $1 plus for ONE trip. Imagine u go back n forth etc cost how much.

I personally don't see any of the reasons for jacking up of Public transport prices, apart from corporate greed.

If they r gonna jack it up,they should ATLEAST put some TVs in the MRT,with some Channel 5 sitcoms...(thru FM:P)...man the MRT is SOOOO BORING :D

Hmm.

haha agreed... at the most get that irritating *ding dong... Dhoby ghaut interchange.. passengers please alight..* rubbish. And don't think for one second those screens on the mrt show any programmes.. they're just advertisement vehicles! WTF

^Ditto...they should really put some nice programmes...it really sucks to be in a train full of people and be bored all at once...total annhilation!

Corporate greed...?
How mucho they are increasing?3cents per trip?
Better if they can give more lucky draws for mrt riders pls

I always find this point interesting:
Since both JC and Poly students are STUDENTS
Why do poly students pay more for transport? :) tertiary?
Erm Is this point already outdated :?:

Why do they keep repeating the ads and play nothing good??

Seriously Not alot companies using the mrt tv to advertise. You can see the same old ad repeating repeating :

-NTUC insurance ad
-ONE monthly movie ad,MI3 for now
-low budget paint ad,forgot which company
-Catherine zeta jones' credit card ad!!the jungle munkeys one
-Richard gere's ad. Another credit card ad!! the birds in india one
-mrt riders winner results, my fave
-NAVY's ad!!!! Ahahaha

Any more to add?

Hmm.

-fullmetaljacket- dude.. u imagine $1.03 per person.. multiply that by their advertised figure of 3 million commuters a day.. multipy that by the average number of trips per day (around 2?)... you get the amount of money they make EVERYDAY.

And that's just for the MRT system.

And if that does not cover their basic expenses (wages, electricity, etc etc)... then they're probably spending on things which are:

1. so intangible we commuters can't feel it.
2. upgrading.. but on what and where???

They're being greedy. And somemore spend on things which are slowly becoming white elephants (think of those unopened stations along the NEL).

I only earn <$200 per month from my part-time job.. and I already blow 45 bucks on transport every month. My folks don't give me cash. How to survive? Thank goodness I'm only a poly student who has a year left before going to army.

Sorry if this sounds like a sob-story, but hey.. it's the truth.

As long as it isnt the shit they play on the buses. I'm sick of the IDOL ads and that stupid american silent hidden camera show. Oh and the worlds funniest animals or whatever. its just shit.

there is this one video, with footage of singapore throughout time. I havent managed to see the whole thing but i like it. And I saw an ad about teens and smoking and drinking. the acting was so bad and it was funny. A guy goes up to 2 other guys with baseball bats and they fight in the street and then his gf dumps him so he jumped off the roof. its really sad and pathetic, but hey, its damn funny. i've only seen it once :(

bluepowder: ok fine, sorry if i offended anyone.

but, screaming at me in the morning for taking bus 14 instead of 222? i mean, come on! be happy i spent money taking the bus right? and i think it's the same driver from my past 2 encounters. i may be wrong.
