guiatrists, wat were the very 1st things u learnt as a noob?

no exact or fool proof way to which comes first. Of course I started with chords... then again, i have some friends that did solo first, before going to chords, and still good.

I guess if you put your heart into learning any instrument, you can still make it. But don't take short cuts. Eventually, you still have to learn chords and stuffs to be an all around guitar player. :D Just don't stop playing.

arent chords difficult to memmorise? i tried on my classical a few times but just couldnt get it lol (and my fingers were hella aching)

Dude, chords are easy. :D

Why don't you try to play some evergreen songs.. that way you memorise chords faster, cos you have to apply them. Just memorizing ain't gonna do good.

Evergreen songs may sound sissy, but they are classics. If you try to play chords, pluck a little here and there and co-ordinate with singing, it will improve your playing.

its just part and parcel of playing guitar. i experienced aching fingers too, and my fingers were aching more when i learnt barre chords. still remembered how i pressed on tables to get my barring strength for F...brrr. they're no biggie now :)

classical guitars are good for practicing your basics. i started from there too. well, of course use whatever guitar you're comfortable with, need not neccesarily be a classical.

as for chords, they should be easy what. practice your basics like A, C, E, D and G. it helps sitting down for at least 15 minutes everyday practicing these chords.

good luck!

Learnt A chord first. And can only learn another chord after I have finished my tuition and scored well in the assessment of the week. So, 1 week 1 chord. Last time no money have to resort to sneaking into TIMES bookshops, secretly opening the sealed songbooks and memorise more difficult chords and songs. Quickly run back home and write down the structures and play. Wooh those times..

this is most enlightening..
i learnt how to change string and tune them correct..yea thats the first thing i learn on guitar,hahah....'

Am, E, Em, G, D and Dm chords. My guitarist friend told me that I will be able to play quite number of songs if I master those chords.

yup, i learnt those basic chords at first, like the proper fingering and stuff.

I remember learning Racer X and Malmsteen solos the 2nd day after getting my first guitar...

interesting. 2nd day after you got your first guitar or 2nd day of playing? 8O

self taught?well,i'm not...cudnt understand those books..no confidence to believe in wat i think the books mean...wat bout u?

btw,i realised tt the further we go on from the 'noob' status(a.k.a. PROGRESS),we become more fussy...4 e.g.,wen i juz started out,i didnt feel any difference wen i played my fren's classical(was using acoustic)..i didnt even notice the nylon strings!n i didnt feel it's too wide as well...but as i progressed,i began to be fussy, saying stuff like,'classical action too damn high, neck too damn wide,so unplayable)...

You sure? Coz the last time i checked, all human beings have the ability to learn.

Learning malmsteen and racer x solos by reading tabs isn't hard, mastering them is a different story altogether.

However, if you figured out their solos by ear during your 2nd day of playing then yeah

you have talent :)
