Gr3y Custom Goodness Les Paul (Purple Haze)

Gr3y

Hi guys,

recently diy seems to be the hot topic.. so happened that i'm also doing up a guitar here.. This guitar,Purple Haze, have gone thru full sanding, repainting.. ok basically the paint job is the focus here. Also you'll realize it's not labeled Gibson but Gr3y! haha.. that's my lil mischief~ hopefully it'll help from someone trying to get me a nice lawsuit.. hehe..

This paint job is one of my best i feel.. the sunburst technique was a total stranger to me and i totally enjoy the results. I believe i gotta start somewhere to learn bursting technique and now this will definitely aid me to spray a 3TSB in future! Gotta thanks someone by the name of kelvin for all e guidance! Although he did not see my project and all he did was telling me a few clues along the way.. i'm very thankful~

Enjoy the pics! The hardwares are still in the process of funding.. ya.. but hopefully it'll be very soon that this Purple Haze will start to rock~!

did you use regular can sprays? i've been wanting to do bursts but somehow I lack the confidence to be able to control the nozzle properly and also i'm afraid that the paint mist will hit the center unevenly.

Godspeed64 : Humbuckers, chrome covered. Infact getting the Tonerider RockSong! Hopefully they'll sound good :D It's a clear lacquer with metallic purple and black colour for burst.

Jugman : yeah the "Gr3y" is in the same font as "Gibson" and same angle as well... if on stage ppl sure mistaken it as a "Gibson". lol~ Tt's the fun thingy yah? it took me long time to sand the guitar down.. because i was lazy i suppose.. but the spray part took me about 1 week..

edder : Bro~ i've been using spray cans all along! Since when i am so rich to afford expensive equipments? But hey.. if you need some tutorials we can talk privately. hehe

yea smart move there. but kinda worried. what if Gibson finds out about it what do you think'll happen?

anyway nice masterpiece. i look forward to your next one!
who knows, once you've completed plenty, you could sell them and start a company. i might even buy from you! but you gotta give me a discount though.

lol just joking

i hate u!!! =( u always make so nice guitars. U can turn something so simple into such a beauty . I have seen ur "jem" and now ur "purple haze" .. wow.. U're amazing lol. I wish i had the skills.

Thumbs up

no la.. This isn't a gibson at all.. we all know it's a Gr3y rite? haha.. anyway.. i'm not building for sale so it's ok.. it's a personal stuff.. they cant interfere.. well i've done up many guitars before.. good 1 bad 1.. but like many others.. this is more like a hobby(i finally admit) and in SG there is no way you can really make this into a biz..

Ppl will start to question what if all e effort but the guitar sounds like shit? I'll still be happy because i enjoyed the process and the result i see! At least when my next generation is out, they'll be proud to realize their dad actually built or say modified guitars when he is younger! hehe..

Thanks ah.. nicholasim! hehe.. you've nt seen my ukelele that looks like tommy emmanuel's bg808 rite?

hmm yea. it's really difficult to start a business on this here in singapore. hehe thinking about the future! way to go man!

Great stuff man, I love the fact that you're constantly pushing the envelope of your capabilities and creations.

I can't wait to see the finished product! :D

wah damn nice lah bro. love your colour choice! hah.

you gona polish it up to high gloss?? cos the thing about spray cans is you get a sort of orange-peel kinda finish to em. hah.

orange peel can be overcomed by A LOT of sanding and fine sanding and sanding and wet sanding and a bad wrist and a painful elbow.

orange peel? now what is that?

they cant sue him unless he had copy an exact gibson replica but the gr3y headstock sign was ok though is the same position but not gibson

SoulJah : I'm not even in the level to be able to do an SRV relic yet.. so i'm gonna try harder! haha

dric : it's quite glossy now.. actually not so much of the "orange-peel".. to be honest, i've not polished this thingy because i'm letting it dry now.. should be in 2-3days time b4 i polish

edder : wa biang.. i hate that step!! esp places like the cutaway part and such.. most prob won't do it.. coz i'm lazy :D

HideX_X : actually i believe there are a few guitar modifier here.. they've done many thing that can easily get sued. so if there is anything wrong, i'm not the first and not alone! wahaha.. crazy psychology! Anyway regarding your pm, i can only give you advise and not to a 100% tutorial.. because most of what i'm doing are really trail and error.. if only you've seen my 1st painted guitar.. it's horrible.. so there isn't really an easy way out..

hahaha... and over sanding to reveal the base paint at those corners... more curse and swear!!!!

just an advise to anyone who wants to try anything DIY... don't be afraid to FAIL cos at one point or another, YOU WILL and then you learn.
