Gibson pickups

just checking out what you do to your Gibson pickups (LP/ SG/ etc...)...

IMO there's more focus on the guitar per se, the default pickups are hits/ misses, depend if these have something for you tone-wise.

they sound good enough for me! i might change the neck pickup to p90's though.

I think they got it right with the burstbuckers, brighter than vintage though. The 500 T is a good high gain pup. I'm not a big fan of the rest.

i find the Burst Buckers very acceptable (the reason i bought an LP Std). the uncovered 500/ 496 (in the LP Classic) pair are suitable for high gain but not much impressions when played clean. the rest, to me, are too ill-defined to provide a balanced tonal offering.

I kept the bridge P90 on my Les Paul but replaced the neck pup with a custom design from Jason Lollar, which has a more complex and "airy" tonal response and does better cleans. This combo works well for me.

I replaced my LP Custom's 490R and 498T. I like something vintage PAF, so I put in a set of Bare Knuckle "The Mule".

maybe it's just me but LPs sound more appealing with non-Gibson pickups...

the default Gibson P90s were what made me sell off my LP Studio...

I think the burstbucker pros sound great, especially on the vintage mahogany studios. That's one guitar which is a serious bang for the buck.

my gibson pickups do not go anywhere...probably cos none of them are the 490/496/498's.

I've got a Gibson Les Paul Classic and I've been using the stock pickups ever since I got it. It's really great, just that finding a nice clean sound with it is a bit tough but do-able. Don't think I'll change it anytime soon

For me, I used the original ones with my sg for a while, then swapped to emg 85/81 for the novelty of it. Found it too.. sterile for my liking wanted something with more mojo so I switched to passive, sd alnico pro IIs. Found the voicing too bassy for my liking and got burstbucker pros from some softie who was selling it 2nd hand. Now I just stick with it cause I can't be bothered anymore, haha

nah, none swapped.
i just dont like the large pickguard SG standard which now naturally comes with the 496/498 combo which i dont really fancy either.
its also a real bitch to change pickups on the large pickguard models.

my '74 has bill lawrence designed superhumbucking, some say the pre-cursor to the dirty fingers.
my '61 reissue of cos has dual '57 classics.
my orville has gibson 'the original', another bill lawrence designed.
my classic of cos has the cool p-90s.
