Gibson LP Vs PRS standard satin

never leh.... I said this line many many times to "ex-Heroes of Soft".

heehee there's an article on the ST today with that exact line: It's all about being able to talk the talk AND walk the walk. The headliner goes "What it really means to be a Young Adult".

So, that said - eh, go buy and try those saddles leh. Or just have a word with Malcolm... he's one of those whom I would trust for opinions on tone because he will use absolute terms (words) if he is very sure what's happening (e.g. "Its brighter sounding")

Hm, yea good recomm, I'll drop Malc a Q soon. I must admit that I face some inertia in making modifications to the more expensive axes though. Like for my yuriy strat, I'm almost inclined to leave it intact, and so far I feel that it's great as it is, so no real push factor to want to mod it, but I guess I won't stop wondering "what if...". hehe

Well, as long as the mods are not permanant... saddles are easily swapped out and about mah... and the ones you are talking about - people will buy them off you one... just probably not in Singapore/SOFT lah. *oops, elite statement!*

true... but I'm hesitant to even change my strat's 3-way pickup selector switch to a 5-way one! Jia lat. Never mind, the tele will be the first!

The 5 way is a good thing to have, unless you never use the in-between positions.

I find on certain voiced strats, I prefer the 3 way, whereas on others I prefer the 5 way.

On the 3 way in between is also possible, just irritating to get it there IMO.

Yup, currently it's more of a good-to-have than a need to have, so no push factor. I've been using the in btwn thingy for a while, but it's irritating to get there and keep it there.

So you prefer 3-way for what type of strats? I'm guessing woods+pickups are the key factors here, so which combis have you experienced some preferences with?

Tks

Whitestrat bro, i'm pretty positive that Jason Schroeder can build to those specs for you, albeit within his 2 double-cutaway body styles.

Thanks man... I'll definately check his stuff out. Seriously nice stainwork on yours man...

Does he do bolt on stuff? Looks like most of his stuff is set-neck. Maybe I'll drop him a line...

About your dream guitar specs, i'm sure if you're not very particular about the body being based on the silo....you could get something done. Just a matter of approaching 1 of those custom builders, not boutique makers i guess.

But that's just the thing. I do want that silo shape, because it's small and comfortable. If I wanted something big and nice, I'll buy a Gretsch White Falcon!!!

I will agree - yes, it is possible to get good tones from such a guitar... however, the AT model and JS series - I would think they are guitars that do sound good as in, if I regard an RG as bland sounding, I would think the 2 models would offer richer tones.

Both don't have extremely wizard-thin necks...

The AT has a very nice trem.=, not a floyd rose...

The JS utilises a traditional block joint with heel cutaway - no recessed neck screws too, traditional neck plate.

The JP6 has a very thin neck lei... thinner than a AT300, and a JS, I think...

And it sounds like a tone-monster, despite the DiMarzios....

That's why I still think that's the best commercially made guitar I've EVER tried.

Just wish it wasn't made in Basswood. Maybe I'll buy a BFR!!!

WTH!!!!
What is this piece of non-boutique CRAAAAAPPPPP doing here?!

Eh, but seriously, have you tried a Dimarzio Megadrive? Hehehe... that one, I thought its quite a nice pup if you enjoy a more... flat sounding sound.

Anyway, dude, with regards to neck thickness, I'm planning to change my USACG neck to a fatter one - I will update the WHOLE of SOFT!!!! On my bovine findings...

Eh... I don't want flat lah... that's why Steve's Special Otherwise I'd go PAF Pros... whahahaha... weedy tone...

They say the Megadrive is very close to the D Sonic, which honestly, isn't too bad. But I found it too warm. That's why I didn't want to keep it on. The D Sonic isn't as flat, and mre meaty, but to the point that I can't really tell the difference between the D Sonic and the neck pup! Whahahaha...

Yes yes! PM me when you change the neck and give my the sublime pleasure of knowing the differences rubbing your hands up and down the long and thick guitar shaft!!!

I prefer the 3 way on vintage voiced, 57/62 pickups on alder body and RW finger/b.
Because I don't use the in-betweens on this guitar, individual pickups give me the exact tone and it has nailed it head on. And the pickups are quiet (maybe I'm lucky?) so I don't miss the hum cancelling at position 2 and 4. Very clear and bright guitar, I use this for funk.

On the 5 way, I have a fralin vintage hots with an alder body, maple finger/b. The 5 way was stock, I use position 4 a lot on this guitar. It retains a lot of the quack when in humbucking mode so I have no problems with this. I use this a lot for blues and it works great when pushing the amp at volume.

Also on a 5 way, CS 50s SC on ash body, maple finger/b. The 5 way came stock, BUT I don't use position 2 and 4 on this guitar much. And I didn't change to the 3 way. In position 2 and 4, the quack is still very strong on them but I prefer the tone on the individual single coils. 5 way is useful, but not something I'd die without. Very clear and bright guitar, I use this for funk.

Not sure if it makes any sense to you, but I try to tie down a musical style I play with the guitar to give some idea.

I actually use 1,3 and 5 more than the 2 and 4 positions, but I for some reason cannot stand a 3 way switch on my strats... whahahaha...
