however i think i am out of the queue for one of those V3 combos.... for now at least.

nope, it's a 25/50/100W solid state. discontinued now. but the XXL head is still in production, i believe (maybe not for long)

and btw i remember seeing a $2000 price tag on the legacy head in this shop at excelsior..should be a branch of ranking cuz they sell the same things..so it's not exactly X2 is it... the legacy head sells direct for US$799, which is roughly S$2600(X2) by today's exchange rate.

i got it second hand - brand new used to be 1200.

for the legacy head - i think you meant S$1600 (after x 2). like what weiht said, there is discount on top of the list price.... so after discount, it's x 2 the direct webprice.

I would suggest finding out more about the stability of such a bridge before even thinking of getting one.
