10 questions to ask yourself bout your attitude towards gear and music, in general
1) Do you mentally go through what a piece of gear(before buying that is) can help in your music composing/production etc? (Note, its help in music general and not just looking for a nice sound but yet not capturing it down by recording)
2) Are you easily lead around by all the good words which others are saying bout the gear you are interested in buying, even though you have no idea/are ignorant bout what the gear can do for you in term of music production or writing?
3) Are you a demanding person when come to gear and music? If yes, why is it so, if no, what make you think you are not
4) Do you think you can learn anything by reading extensively, yet not hearing or trying out the gear over a long period of time(through buying and using the gear)
5) When was the last time that you actually believe what someone said, over a piece of gear thats popular and yet when after buying(note, after buying and testing extensively thru your different instrument, amps etc), decided that its not for you. If theres such occurance, what was that piece of gear and who was that fella who told you/heard from
6) Do you rather learn what goes behind the technology of the gear(bits of amps, effect, guitars etc) or buy into the words of what the advertisment/forum is meant to do
7) Are you willing to spend time, to find out, what goes behind the working of your instrument, effects, amps or just wanna concentrate on playing the geetar only coz thats the only thing you wanna. If you just wanna play geetar, do you think you want to learn the how to/what is/whats not, behind those gear you are using? If not, why
8 ) When was the last time that you experience joy, over music making, with a piece of gear? What gear was it and can you express the joy in words, how it might have shape your attitude in music making. (Note, please dont talk about tone, sound, warm, articulate etc. Take it as you are telling a non musiician bout the power of music)
9) Do you think that its weird when so many of us here can talk about gear in general but yet not hearing much of the music? If so, what do you think, is the problem
10) Do you think the space in between music should be silence or more music? If you choose silence, when was the last time you "talk" to yourself? If you choose more music, do you think you can do yourself and others a favour by learning how to be quiet?
