Amazing news! Gigastudio started as Gigasampler, the first kid on the block using sample-streaming technology. It was the holy grail of sampling. Tascam took over, and it died a slow death, losing ground to Native Instrument's Kontakt and other independent players (PLAY by East West, Vienna by VSL, ARIA by Garritan etc). Then finally, Tascam pulled the plug last year, announcing that it will no longer develop or support Gigastudio. That left many Gigastudio users angry (me included) esp since we've invested years in building our Giga libraries.
Now, Garritan has announced acquiring Gigastudio! Can't imagine what will happen. I think it's almost certain both Giga and ARIA technology will integrate as one.
As it is, Gigastudio is still the ultimate sampler - lowest latency, highest polyphony, compared to their competitors.
This is an interesting development that many will be very keen to follow up on...
