Hey man,

Do go to TYMC music and try both side by side. They are really nice and patient guys, i tried both back and forth for a long time before deciding.

The bivalve was capable of much more gain, nice saturated like medium gain tones, kinda like the bogner shiva. But this is a class A amp, fat spongy cleans and the gain has a unique character to it as well. But, it will do classic rock no problem. I could get instant Van Halen, Paul Gilbert, Nuno tones just by pushing it harder with a fulldrive2 or you could use a tubescreamer.

The Flexi although was a nice amp, was way way too loud and too much headroom to get any power tube gain going on. It has a master volume but i was not successful with getting gain from it. You will need a hot plate. But don't be mistaken its a bad amp, its very loud and needs to be played loud. Its class A/B for the flexi and i much prefered the fatness of the class A cleans on the bi valve and the ability to get it cranking at low volumes.

As with all THDs , they work superb with pedals, versatile enough for all kinds of music ( you will need a boost for metal )

Hey Nano, good review here! Now, how about comparing it against the F-30 u used to have? okay, I know its not apple-to-apple, whats the thing that the bivalve wont do, & whats the thing that the mesa wont do?

Although i haven't post my Univalve which i'd acquired 2 months ago from TYMC, i would like to commend CK and the staffs for the excellent service provided.

Thought i'll chip in here, the THD amps are not the swiss army knife amps that some may expect them to be with the tube changes. An EL-34 won't make it a plexi, EL84 a vox or KT66 a JTM45....there is the sonic footprint of the THD amps, with the power tube changes there are the subtle changes to its basic tone.

Regarding the difference between the F-30 and Bivalve, i'll compare it with the Univalve i own. Something that the THD amps won't do are those ultra saturated preamp gain type of tones that ENGL, Mesa and Diezel are known for. The Uni and Bi are Class A designed amps, making the power tube running full bore all the time regardless of what volume you turn it up to....therefore there's always that immediate attack and touch sensitivity which some players prefer, alot of dynamics to explore by using just your left and right hand techniques. Granted, the F-30 can get to that stage too....but it'll be ear shattering loud.

As with all tube amps, the THD of course sounds best when it's opened up after a certain volume level and that's how i play mine too...with the added benefits of the power stage pushed. Hope that helps Ripper :)

Thanks.

Well firstly the mesa f-30 is an el84 amp. One of the better ones. The F-30 has really good cleans, i enjoyed the clean channel alot by cranking the gain for a " close to breakup" tone and setting it to a moderate volume. Very pedal friendly, nice amp, good at low volumes. The distortion side of things made me lose interest after a while. Its good for chugging kinda music, its like a mini rectifier, but other then that, its not versatile and i ended up not using the gain channel at all. Quality tones, but better try before you buy, or else you would end up using only one channel and hating the other.

I thought the f-30 cleans was good, the bivalve clean was even better. I'm not a fender clean kind of person, i find them too thin and shimmery. I much prefer a fat semi-clean sound from a marshall plexi. The bivalve is a cross between a vox and a marshall clean. Fender cleans are also available if you do not high cut the sound. ( acts like a bright switch ). Despite being a one channel amp, it can do so much more. The combination of different tube voltages, diff inputs, full power or attenuated sounds, mix and matching of tubes, all those combos will give you alot of tweaking power and options.

I set the amp on a medium gain mode, roll down the volume for cleaner passages and saturate it with a fulldrive 2 for XTC like gain.

Both amps are great with pedals. The f-30 has really good cleans for a mesa but BiValve is superior in this department.

Distortion wise, f-30 is much heavier and more saturated, but only one kind of gain sound available. The BiValve is more versatile and the highest gain it can go is for old school 70's 80s kind of classic rock tones. A OD pedal will be needed to drive it to insane levels.

I am going to record a video of the thd bivalve today. It seems quite a few people are intereste. Will post it up once its done.

Squier 51 Mod

this is the second time I'm modding this. its such a moddable guitar and is becoming my favourite.

Changes made
1) Pickguard to tortoiseshell
2) Neck pickup to GFS Lipstick middle pickup
3) Bridge pickup to GFS Mean 90 Bridge
4) Push pull on the volume pot rewired to pair up the neck and bridge pickup into series humbucker. Downside is when activated, there will be no signal when pickup selector switch is at the neck pickup position. Can take it as a kill switch. The should be a way to do overcome this but I really do have better things to do than to kill some brain cells... like drinking beer.
