Foldable Keyboard

We've been talking about making keyboards as portable as possible. I think we have been talking about the possibility of a fold up keyboard in another post - as a joke.

But this is no joke. They ARE actually coming up with one!

Hope the touch will not be affected.

8O 8O 8O it would be great to hav a keyboard like tt...
then we keyboardists would not need to carry such bulky keyboards :D

However, from their sketchy picture, you can see that there's a slight gap between the keys where the keyboard folds/is attached. This will make playing difficult. Hopefully they come up with a better picture of their prototype. But still, it is an interesting concept.

i have seen others that uses cloth-like material. you basically roll it up like a spring-roll. but those keys are like your calculator keypad.

There are quite few brands in the market.
one of it make in Japan by "YAMANO" brand.
(NOT Yamaha, so don't confused!).

They call it "Hand Roll Piano Keyboard".
available in 32 & 61 keys...
come with standard 128 MIDI sounds.
It cost almost SGD300/= (for 61 keys).

Similar keyboard also can be found in China, Europe & US brands (but i can't remember the brands liao... as all never heard before).
about the same concept.

I think it mainly target the kids markets.

but i ever tought to buying it (for curiousity & fun) but aat the end drop the idea.
Because the price $$$. Too expensive "toy".

BTW, if the Key slightly thicker (at least some pastic key feel like those mini keyboard), i may be consider it again if not too exp.

>> "Hand Roll Piano Keyboard"

The review for this wasn't good at all. Missed key touches was the main problem noted.

If you're referring to the fabric keyboard, I don't think anybody will be interested. Can get a 61-key M-audio proper keyboard controller by paying a just a little more. But if you're talking about the prototype foldable one - then it's a different story. Have to try the touch first. But since it is prototype, I doubt you can get it easily.

hmmz, i was referring to the hand-roll keyboard

but seriouslly , even as a novelty product or like for fun keyboard / handy occasions, its seriouslly not worth it ?

hm...
if it is a toy for kids, it is too exp.
if it is keyboard for adult, it is too low spec.
BTW
talking about $200/=, if it made in Japan, maybe still reasonable.
if made in China, people will expecting < $100/=

yeap , got an offer for the japan made one(49 keys) at around 250.

anyone keen to get one to play around with ? just drop me a msg.

It's true if the price is in that range ($200+), it's too ex to consider.
MIDI keyboards can already cost below $200, and those are "real" keys, so for someone to buy a "hand roll", it's hard to justify the price.
Moreover, a "hand roll" keyboard could likely be used by, say, students who may not have the budget (or parents who may not be sure of their kid's interest in their music lessons) and would stand in as a "temp keyboard", hence at $200, this just won't justify it!
