Just came back from china. Phew the amount of FAKE GIBSON, IBANEZ and Fenders are everywhere almost every shops.

Those who buy from EBAY esp from China or Korea please be VERY CAREFUL.

I saw a GIBSON "MADE IN USA" SLASH MODEL with SNAKE INLAY only S$600.00 so tempting but I can tell you guys all these fake ones really bad to play. Its a bad start but who knows one day we cant tell which is which.
JEM only $500.00
Start Standard: $500.00

if we can't tell the difference, playability wise, feel and tone... we shouldn't worry no more if it's fake

It's just like eating Katong Laksa in Singapore. I don't even know which one is the original, but they taste almost the same for me, so I will just eat the one at opposite sim lim, the nearest to my workplace

CHINA only can copy and cant invent, that is why i direspect their products. they cant make a good quality products but wants to copy a major brand name. its a disgrace... honestly

My Ibanez Artcore custom was made in china, and it's awesome.

Faking is OK to me. I expect it to be a learning process to the producers. Once they can create good fake, they will be able to create an original product. Well, even if they don't create an original product, at least they will able to create a very very good fake :D

Ultimately customers will decide to buy or not, knowing the product is fake. And as my previous post above, once customer cannot differentiate if it's fake or original (which is either the customer is really a fool, or the fake is really really top notch), it does not matter anymore if the goods is fake :D

I would argue on grounds of ethics.

Of course, everyone has a different standard which they adhere to.

But no fakes for me. Get it done right, get it done real.

goose hit it spot on, pirated copies and it's not OEM.

I don't doubt Impromptu's assessment of how his guitar feels, there's bound to be gems/lemons in such products as wood are organic stuff...there's no fixed consistency.

It's all about the ethics, of blatantly watermarking the company's logo on those pirated copies. Whether the product is good/bad, it shouldn't be done...nor advocating that their pirated copies are better than the real deal, imho such companies deserve to be shut down

i have a prejudice against china made gutiars no matter how good they sound or play. If a jap made sounds worst and costs more i'll still buy the jap 1.

i absolutely agree if ethics come into picture. Fake is definitely very very unethical. So don't buy such stuff if you condem it.

When I say I'm ok with it, doesn't mean I will buy fake guitar (why should I do that? i'm happy enough with my original made in china guitar anyway) nor I encourage people to buy it.

I just foresee those seller (after so many years perfecting their fakes), someday will be confident enough to write their own brand on the headstock, making a very good copy of famous guitar like TOKAI, POT, BURNY, etc (not that I say that TOKAI, POT, BURNY, etc used to sell fake  )

Isn't that the way mosy ppl think to? If its a good guitar, its a good guitar. It doesn't matter where its made. Like u said, if the jap guitar sounds worse than the china guitar, u'd still buy it? Where's the sense in that statement? And a jap guitar usually costs more too. Dun tell u wanna waste that cash jus bcos u hate china-made stuff so much?

Although the Real Original Les Paul has to be a Gibson..I Love My Greco MIJ LP Custom..its works purfectly well for me and so have those who have tried it..It's a work of art..i still love it..although i would love to 1 day get my hands on a Gibson..the greco does the job just fine for me..lovely tone..feel..looks..

If one day Gibson products Q.C go down into the gutter, and the fakes (or lawsuits brands, if you like) manage to keep the quality Gibson-style guitars on a high level, would you still buy Gibson?

You probably would, cos it's not "Gibson" on the headstock, but Tokai, Burny, or Greco.

But what if the headstock says "Gibson", and is made in China, and also maintains the quality as with the Japanese counterparts?

China is still coming up. Their era might just come: after all they also have their own unique roots in music and instrument making.
