Does made in china really suck?

Hi fellow softies,


Although a huge percentage of us technically come from China.... Most of us i presume don't really trust the "made in china" products. I had this debate with a friend that day and we totally dissed, more like condemned china made guitars or effects. Although nowadays 50% of the worlds products are made in china.

The reason being because they have the worst quality check and you might get a sucky made in china product even though it's got a reputable brand on it.

Do any of you have good or bad experiences with made in CHINA products?

Seems like alot of china supporters.... haha.... Let's put it this way.... Would you buy a product of same value from the same store that is made in china or korea? Choose one.....

why would they make china when they already have korean?cause korean is ending their production.

Through experience, not only guitars, other products made in China won't last long and i can say sucky, China is well-known for it's rapid mass production but not quality, i had few guitars made in China and Korea, guess what? Korean made is much better obviously even my Squire Made in Indonesia had better quality than China made. Dunno why, but China made products really have low quality, guitar parts would fall apart easily, i guess China people have this mind set "Kiasu to make money but low quality products" in my opinion, it's cheating. I think if they send a nuclear missile across to India, even when it hits anything 70% chances of the missile won't even explode ,

My Ibanez GSA60 is Made in China, and it is definitely well-made. It feels solid, in fact I doubt it would break even if I smash it on the floor. It sounds great. The feel is incredible, the neck is extremely smooth, in all, I just love my guitar and it feels like its worth much more than I paid for it.

So yeah, I have nothing against Made in China products. I do know Made in Taiwan products are very shoddy (look at my Acer laptop and a number of lower-end Yamaha guitars) but China? Nope.

I think not. This generation technically was made and born in Singapore. Most of our grandparents or great grandparents would be the ones from China.

But I digress...

Anyways, I've tried some kick ass china made jazz guitars in shanghai. with hollow flat wound strings... killer man... Should have bought a few. you wouldn't have suspected it was chinese made.

So, in all honestly, made in china isn't bad... I wouldn't touch their cars at this point though...

No, it's because China labour at this point is cheaper. Lower production costs = higher profit margins.

China labour prices are going up btw big time, as they have already have penetrated the market share in most industries and have run-out competitors who manufacture in other countries from the market, and simply put, the bigwigs there are starting to capitalise big time...

Also the reason why most China-made products are shoddy (Im not profiling by the way) is because their biggest competition is actually themselves. Lack of infringement rights for patented innovations and cut-throat-lower-the margin-at-all-costs are generally the rule of the day, in which, copycats of the initial copycats have sprung overnight at each advent of a manufacturing breakthrough. Hence, the reason why they are killing each other overlooking proper QC controls(both environmental and health hazards) just so that they can survive within their own juggernaut of economical industrialisation.

Hey, I travel there frequently for business, so its just my 2 cents.

hehe, some of the asian countries manufactured pcb, components use in our musical gear and export it to the angmo countries for assembly before pusing it out as the product we happily buy and use and feel proud cos we think it has no asian connection..

i think it depends on who is supervising the production. Haha you should see CHINESE BRAND stuff. Oh my god. It's worse than even say, SX. Like not talking about tone difference or what its just cosmetic like a piece of wood that is trying to pass off as a guitar!

oh well prices in china going up, i think guitars will be made in africa soon. THen we might have CONFLICT GUITARS omg.

indonesia has good labour rates as well, currently Yamaha tapping...

haha im indonesian too i know what u r talking abt. But its going up, and you really have to have strict QC. I've seen some MII Ibanezes and fenders in indonesia which are priced like 30% of a MIJ or MIA. And it's very audible in the kind of tones they produce as well...

though there are many good indonesian wood workers, if u have some insane idea like a beautiful carved out top you can try it haha

Nice Ibanez you have there subversion.... looks awesome.... looks abit flamed is it? How does it sound?

I guess after 2 pages of comments, i think it doesn't matter where it's made but rather how lucky you are to get 1 of that 50% well made guitars. I mean even gibson made in US sometimes suck too. But then again china production lines spoil their own reputation. They mass produce without proper quality control and that doesn't help consumer support. I thought Singaporeans were kiasu and sometimes selfish but these china people are just so into money making they totally forget everything else. They should just employ singaporeans to produce their guitars, that way we can only blame ourselves if they suck. Imagine the labour costs, hahaha, it'll be scary!

I think so far the most consistent producer of guitars that i've personally tried is Paul Reed Smith. Every guitar just justifies the amount of money you're spending on it although occasionally you might be the unlucky one to get that 1 piece that has some really minor issues.
