Lotsa time, in a gear forum, we love to "discuss" about the tone of our instrument, aka guitar.

And in all these discussion, we love to talk about tone/sound/SMLJ heavenly notes what so ever bout our guitar, amp, gadget. Have you ever think about the possibilities of capturing those thing in waveform and using it to interact instead of just words?

heh, snuff bro, brosss, You are part of the bro brosss gang, so cannot do this poll

beauty is in the eye of the beholder and tone is in the ears of the player

therefore even if we all record our supposedly SMLJ heavenly tones and share them online half the world is still going to go "woah wtf your tone suxxors go do smthsmthsmthsmth to smthsmthsmthsmth and stop wasting my smthsmthsmthsmth time."

that being said, i believe i can FEEL the GREAT tone when it plays  and thus so can you. It's unexplainable but I get goosebumps when I hear the tone emanating from a fantastic rig, i'm sure you've all felt it sometimes too!

maybe some entrepreneur can (idea alert) develop a cheaply available webcam with an excellent mic and let us all e-jam online so we can compare and TALK tone for real

heh, interestingly, some of us actually hear tone when someone who can play make even a lousy tone sound like million or when seeing the person playing doing the constipated orgasm look while playing. Stange eh.

and lastly, some hear tone when its a full piece of music with proper arrangement of other instrument thrown in.

so is the tone we hear really good tone or just scenario of conditional biased tone?

hehe, i dont know tone nor knowing what is the tone even when i play it. Coz if i know tone and when i play it, i can explain why its good tone and able to replicate it on waveform to explain to others.

If i cant even explain it then i call it the scenario of conditional biased tone. Which is not the idea of good sound, but partly due to our state of mind and the mood we are in, which sometime, doesnt matter whether is it good sound or bad good, as long theres sound, we see it as "THE sound/tone" But, is that really it?

heh, additional question for those who chose option 3)

1) And so if no basic idea of recording, whats stopping you to get any proper recording device to capture the sound, write demo and produce your own track

2) Do you think those clips on youtube recorded with cheapo cam, handphone cam, other then the playing, you are able to hear the sound properly and have a good idea of the sound which the gear can have?

3) Will you rather show a lousy quality clip which doesnt do justice to the sound of the gear bought with our hard earn cash or show the world for the sake of showing even though the sound is lousy(and you know it) or dont care, just want to show the clips even if quality is bad(and you know it) or not do any clips at all in order not to make the gear/ourself look bad on a lousy quality clips

bad tone?

1) Any instrument being played by anyone who cant play nor knowing how to play

2) Any sound that doesnt register in the mind of the one listening as listenable nor pleasant to general human hearing

3) Any sound which the listener has no understanding or ability to grasp the meaning behind it

4) Any sound thats not in line with the listener state of mind at any instance/moment/mindset

5) Any sound recorded via cheapo cam/recorder and put online to let others view it

heh, fact or fiction...

heh, dont take it too seriously

some are just poking fun at some, myself included, on how passionate we can be over something we cant explain, but still thinking we knew something.

instead of telling people how my tone is, i let my fingers do the work. when there are great fingers, there is great tone. if my fingers aren't great enough, i got no good tone.

Not sure if it's counted, but I've recorded samples of my acoustic guitars with my Nokia phone, uploaded them to Youtube and surprisingly, the result was pretty good! But I doubt anyone would be interested in my guitars. If asked, I'd link to it though.

Tone.....very subjective yeah.

Surprisingly...some people actually find Robben Ford's tone horrible!

I propose we use only onomatopoeia when describing our tone, with maybe a little phenomime and psychomime as required.

Neeooow-wanga-wanga-ohhhmmmm.
