Dirt pedal + boost?

Hey guys I'm pretty new to this forum, I've been reading this forum for quite awhile though, just never really got around to posting anything. haha.

Anyway so here it goes, I'm looking to get a dirt pedal, preferably with a boost function for solos and stuff. So far I've been looking at the EHX Metal Muff and the VS Jekyll and Hyde, I've also been considering getting two separate drive units.

So yeah, I need some help! I have a budget of about 200 dollars.

Oh yeah, and I like classic rock and bluesy overdrive tones. I occasionally also use heavy modern tones but nothing metal-ish... I play a Fender 60th anni mexican strat through a Marshall VS265 valvestate amp. yup. thanks! :D

Get a modded Boss BD2 blues driver .... pretty versatile gain control from your guitar volume!

modded BD-2? wow haven't heard of that. I assume the mod gives it loads more gain? I was also looking at the beez modded MT-2 at ebenex, can anyone tell me how it sounds and whether its still available?

Oh oh! And the crunchbox looks pretty good too.

The MT2 is yet another versatile pedal but i am not sure what that^ mod does!?

What i am trying to share with you is that you can just use one dirt pedal with gain maxxed and use ur guitar volume knob as the pseudo gain control ...that way you *may* not need another boost pedal !

+1. coupled with your amps drive if you use it, you can control various degrees of OD or Dist. If thats not enuf, add a OD or dist pedal after BD2.

wow thanks for the really quick replies. yup i do know that i can use my amp's drive but i wont be able to do that at church when i play for worship so thats out. I do know that i can use my volume control as a gain boost but i haven't found it to be very effective for some reason, and its also quite cumbersome to play with the volume knob while playing... ack.

I used to have an MT2 but i found it to be too gainy so i sold it to a friend. I wonder if the modded is better... I have a pretty small budget so i dont think i can get an OD plus a BD2...

Well, you can still use the amp's drive ch. Set the gain like ther not there kinda saturation. Then use you gtr vol to control from clean to slight OD. Guitar vol as gain boost????? :? :? :?

church = boss bd2 and it works pretty much with any amp !

The stock may be a little shrill ....a mod will cure !

Whats your music genres? u wan OD or dist? etc....... what guitar u using....................

i'm using a fender 60th anniversary strat and i like classic rock, blues and the occasionally heavy modern song. its in my first post!

bd-2 modded? Any idea where I could get hold of one of these modded blues drivers? and how about the crunchbox and beez mod mt2? im pretty keen on those two...

you can also include the following:

the DDB has the CRUNCH offering which would give more than enough top end in conjunction with its HEAVY module...

hey sub. thanks for the help. I've read your review on the duo drive blender but i'm not too keen because it seemed to me as if both of the drives were pretty half-baked in the sense that they were really true interpretations of what a good crunch or heavy sounds are. plus it doesnt have an on-the-go boost feature so yeah.

can anyone tell me more about the crunchbox or beez mod mt2? I heard the crunchbox sounds great with a boost.

yah thats what i think i should do haha. crunchbox and maybe a tubescreamer later on if my budget allows it. the MXR distortion looks pretty interesting though. not many boost + overdrive pedals around these days. people usually use equalization to give them the boost?

yes & no. Theres different types of boost in the market. clean, dirty, volume, etc... You have to make sure what kind of boost you want.

what kind of boost is the like um, solo boost then? suppose im doing rhythm work for most of a song, then when the solo kicks i want to have maybe a sharper more piercing, solo type tone. louder too maybe.
