Dave Mustaine has issued the following statement:

MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has issued the following statement regarding the death of DAMAGEPLAN guitarist Dimebag Darrell:

"There is nothing unique or clever to this post, and what I want to say has no doubt already been said throughout the metal community, by countless others whom were more closer to Darrell than me by now.

"However, knowing he was murdered tonight, I wish to thank and remember Darrell for his amazing life and the gift that he shared with me and so many other fortunates.

"I pray for Darrell's family and friends; specifically for their healing, their peace, and their understanding of this tragedy in this time of need.

"I send my deepest heartfelt condolences to the Abbott family, to Darrell's friends, and to the fantastic PANTERA and DAMAGEPLAN fans around the world.

"We must never forget his life, and his gifts, his genius, his terrific personallity, and the legacy he left behind to remember him by.

"Darrell, I will see you in heaven and I, like so many more, love you brother.

"You will be missed."

Let's just all ignore that ignorant guy...I just got back from camp and you can imagine this news hit me in the face harder than stuff that's been happening to me lately...I was thinking 'it's gotta be one of those bullshit rumours'..till you guys confirmed it...it's really unbelievable..he was truly a unique metaller, and i bought the damageplan album awhile ago and it rocked...i was looking forward to more damageplan albums...but now...let's just pray such horrible things won't happen to the guitar greats around anymore..RIP Dimebag..

If U r a musician, maybe u'll feel the loss too. But if u're not, then do pay respect by just reading or keep quiet.

Ok, I have finished grieving. It's over. I am surprised at myself for getting over this so quickly. I surmise it's because I am desensitized to the notion of death. I get over shock and trauma very quicky too. I don't think it makes me any less human. I view it as a strength, not a weakness. Dying is what you do after you live a while. I take solace in the fact that Dime died while doing what he loved. It beats dying a slow and painful death by cancer anyday.

What can I say about Dime that hasn't already been said in the outpouring of grief around the Internet? Not much.

All I can say is, he was a gifted musician, a very influential guitarist, and by all accounts, the nicest guy. It came through in every interview and every lesson. He made time for every fan or acolyte who wanted to talk to him. No rock-star BS.

He wrote some unforgettable riffs, and his solo in 'Cemetary Gates' is one of the best ever. It sents chills down my spine listening to it now. He was also the driving force behind one of metal's most powerful bands. He left an indelible mark in metal and inspired many kids to pick up guitar. His playing almost singlehandedly kept metal alive during the 90s.

I will remember this day the same other others remember how Rhoads, SRV and Hendrix died. We'll miss you Dime. Your legacy will live on forever.



To the pisshead who's gloating about the tragedy: You are a sick, sad individual for thinking he deserves such a horrible death. Has he done anything to you to justify such hatred? People who know him says he was the coolest dude. Seems to me you are the one with issues, not Dimebag.
