Kreator was the first few german thrash i listened to (Sodom/ Destruction etc...), i still have Pleasure to Kill in cassette tape... nostalgia!! sepultura was another one of my initial purchases, you know Beneath The Remains? i ordered an original cassette tape from this shop at Far East Plaza, cost me $18 back then.... quite a sum for a school kid...

Arch Enemy is a band i respect particularly because they have Mike Amott (ex-Carcass), a very capable player. but the overall vibe of the band still reeks of certain commercial aspects, not really a fan...

some of the metal players are very competent musicians but they choose to incorporate technical aspects into their playing liberally. so what we hear is merely a tip of the talent iceberg... eg: MAYHEM's guitarist blasphemer. there are very little solos in his playing with the band but he's riffs are very intricate, it's like playing lead riffs or something. his dedication can also be heard in the recordings, you can hear 3-distinct guitar tracks on certain songs which showed the extent of his commitment. respect!!

HAPPY 2005 to everyone! :D

Mayhem's new song Illuminate Eliminate makes me high everytime i listen to it at night..off the lights, off computer screen, just listen to the song in total darkness waaahh pure shiokness laah

that's not an easy track to listen to (in fact, that's the nature of Ordo Ad Chao in whole...), a chemistry of speed, psychedelia, doom but 100% Mayhem.

Um... This thread is like HOW OLD???

But anyway...

Woot! Carcass! \m/

I don't listen to much metal anymore (sadly) but I Was a fan of Cradle of Filth before they degraded to a circus sideshow (Midian is one of the later albums I quite enjoy). Became a fan after listening to Cruelty and the Beast, but decided that their best days are over since Damnation and a Day.

I still stand by the fact that they did some great covers, and D. Filth's lyrical and vocal prowess still gets my respect, cos I owe it to him in terms of my writing style (him and Eminem, heh).

In Flames's Whoracle is another album I listened to in my early days of metal, along with Terrorizer's World Downfall.

And can I say At The Gates' Slaughter of the Souls? Heh.

Melodic Death = Kalmah , Norther , Amon Amarth , Mors Principium Est etc ... These bands uses "Gothenburg riffs" and some would utilize the keyboards to create the melodies and their grunts are not as guttural

i believe, melodic death is what the bands choose to sound like, rather than the mere name of the band itself.

the famous gothenburg tone (not riffs) had been employed both in the melodic & more brash sounding death metal, notably Entombed & Dismember, among others. these bands' music weren't 'melodic' when they started out.

Er, I listen abit bah....

Cannibal corpse, Nile, Behemoth, Obituary, Vital remains.

Actually Satyricon is like the only black metal I listen to, cept if you wanna count Nagaroth, but I only like one song from Nagaroth so.....My friends are really into dissection, darkthrone, carpathian forest, immortal, burzum but I never got around to listening to em.

i bet you are listening to the later days Satyricon, eh?

the other bands your friends listen to tend to propel the fundamentalist black metal music, very brash & in-your-face, some of which induce more headache rather than a true appreciation by the listeners.

I've been hooked on Immortal lately. Really love the way at how they make use of diminished chords (I think) in their songs to give that dark feel to their music.
