Kreator was the first few german thrash i listened to (Sodom/ Destruction etc...), i still have Pleasure to Kill in cassette tape... nostalgia!! sepultura was another one of my initial purchases, you know Beneath The Remains? i ordered an original cassette tape from this shop at Far East Plaza, cost me $18 back then.... quite a sum for a school kid...
Arch Enemy is a band i respect particularly because they have Mike Amott (ex-Carcass), a very capable player. but the overall vibe of the band still reeks of certain commercial aspects, not really a fan...
some of the metal players are very competent musicians but they choose to incorporate technical aspects into their playing liberally. so what we hear is merely a tip of the talent iceberg... eg: MAYHEM's guitarist blasphemer. there are very little solos in his playing with the band but he's riffs are very intricate, it's like playing lead riffs or something. his dedication can also be heard in the recordings, you can hear 3-distinct guitar tracks on certain songs which showed the extent of his commitment. respect!!
HAPPY 2005 to everyone!
