Damaged Pickups for Repair

Hi all,

Anyone know where I can get some damaged pickups? Managed to repair a Barden for a friend and repaired some Fenders in the past and it was something that I wanted to get around to doing someday. There aren't many guitarists in Dongara (pop 3,500) so not much call for it here. No rewinding though please!

cheers,

Mark.

Perhaps you could post on luthers, or any other forum/classifieds, for some cheap, OEM pups, and then just "practice" on them? I don't know if thats what you want to do though.

Thanks Shredcow.

Don't want the pickups to practice on, more to repair if someone needs that done. Will look into doing rewinds in the future as I planned to make a machine to help me do a full rewind.

cheers,

Mark.

Normally a pickup fails due to a break in the pickup wire. This can happen at the beginning of the coil (near the pins or on the pins themselves), in the body or at the end of the coil. This is usually due to corrossion if it is in the winding or mechanical damage if it is in contact points.

Breaks are more often at the start or in the ealy part of the coil, so that unwinding a number of windings will show the break and the coating can be stipped and then resoldered to the mountings. At this time the pickups can be wax potted to prevent a further problem.

These problems are more prominent of single coil or non encased pickups due exposure. As the winding wire is very thin and brittle, it is fine work.

cheers,

Mark.

Hi Mark its nice of you to remember Sincity...
yup talkin pu wires it can be a pain...there have been times it gets thrown out >>>
I got couple of vintage Fender that i might come around when iam free.

No problem, but it's a long way to come around - I'm in Oz!

Managed to fix a couple of vintage fenders as the owners didn't want to have them rewound. This is actually what Seymour Duncan started out doing, before he started making pickups. Now it's an absolute pain in the ass, but a challenge as well

Catch ya later.

Mark.
