Country Music

Country music is great ;)

Actually, all music is great lol

Vince Gill is pretty good. And Emmylou Harris - Boulder to Birmingham is a beautiful song.

Any guitarists out there who like country music, just let me know - i've got folders of country songs for rhythm guitar (about 300 in total).

My guess is that 200+ of them will have the same chord progression...heh.

That being said I started off with Johnny Cash and his gang, then Buck Owens and the Buckaroos (check youtube), Hellecasters, Redd Volkaert, Scotty Anderson and all those crazy cats. Needless to say I play a Telecaster :P

I'm also big on bluegrass, the acoustic roots of country music. Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys, Doc Watson, Norman Blake are all good. Chris Thile with Punch Bros blows my mind too. I am now addicted to mandolin because of them.

Speaking of which, anyone need a mandolin player?

Anyone heard of brad paisley? He is a very good guitar player as well, and writes very funny lyrics in his songs.

There's an excellent country-tinged Southern rock band called Kings of Leon though, any fans?

Heya! Yeah! I'm a massive KINGS OF LEON fan although they're more of an alternative rock band (in my opinion only) hailing from Nashville, Tennessee. But yeah, their early music compromised of southern rock influences.

They're an excellent band. Some of their better tunes include "Sex On Fire", "Use Somebody", "I Want You", "Crawl", "Revelry" & "Manhattan".

I tell you Calab Followill's voice is sooo distinct, so recognizable. His voice never fails to amaze me :-D

I love country music too, but I guess I'd be more into the folk influenced type. The first song I wrote with my acoustic band is a country song. I do like some contemporary country, as long as it's nice, I like it! Makes me wish Singapore had all the countryside though. Urban country, anyone?

I personally like Don McLean, John Denver and Johnny Cash, but there're some fingerstyle guitarists on youtube who are plain awesome. Check out thumbpickr1812 on youtube. Cheers!

Knowledge not too diverse in this genre, but I enjoy listening to some like Dylan, Johnny Cash, Bright eyes, into the more folky stuff.
