Casino: Yes or No

Hi Thor,

Actually i have to agree with what you mentioned abt having a choice in this matter. But i guess it depends on where one draws the line between having faith in their government's economic, investment, morally stigmatic decisions, and having things their way in the spirrit of true democracy.

In this light, i feel that no government or person in the world for that matter can predict a realistic outcome for their actions. The best is an educated guess, with logical reasoning, and followed by 'failsafe' planning.

I hope i don't get thrown into jail by ISA for saying this. If I was LKY, I rather trust myself with my 5 dollars than anybody else in Singapore. Sad but true.

Edit:- Sorry, too long never write essay, my glammar and spelling all sala.

oh no, i had another dream!

The world's largest beer (not THAT Larger but the Special One) emailed me and asked if they could advertise on SOFT. They will sponsor all future events and give me all the funds i need to execute some sleek projects. ie SOFT MEGA Music Complex. ha..haa..haaa..

Should I do it? I mean, SOFT is just getting along fine without them. Would it benefit SOFT's users? or would it actually harm us? ie, lured to drinking, dont practise instrument, playing skill deteriote.

nice one there James. Hey, why not get porn sponsors here. They got LOADs more money to give. That would definitely benefit us, no?

I personally agree to the Casino idea. Why? I trust people to know how to take care of themselves. And really, i think its time Singaporeans stop being so sheltered and pampered, from things even like VICE. You want Democracy? No better time than now to start.

kind of contradicting don't you think? Democracy = majority rules. There won't be any poll, so we will not know who the majority really are, for or against. If majority says are against it, are we shying away from democracy?

yes. I get your point. But i'm not trying to prove anything here. Like i said, it really depends on where we draw that line. You are referring to intrinstic democracy while i was referring to realistic democracy in SG.

haha james you just potong the thread is it? Anyway i was about to speak on behalf of someone very wise - my granny.

I was chatting with her last night about everything under the sun. Then somehow we talked abt the casino issue. She simply said:"No difference"

She spoke in Teochew la. Actually she kinda meant that its just another one of 'those things' that happen from time to time. I've come to realise that from her experience, this is probably nothing she havent seen. You guys must have heard of Geylang, Desker Road in the past...

anyway, whatever it is, we are wasting our time debating on this. It is already set. Call it apathy or whatever you want to call it. SG will will remain that way. As long as people are not starving, no one will care.

actually, there are people who cares. see, even on a music forum like SOFT, we are talking about it. our life should be what we make out of it. we have the choice. we can choose.

i think here lies the crux of the problem. the government wants more people to take charge of their lives, but yet they do not want to unleash the noose on their necks. they want people to test the boundaries by running as far as they can, but people know that the further you run, the more painful you will feel as u choke on the noose.

i think you have valid points to make on the casino issue. but i do not think that people will generally be just convinced of the decisions of the government since it still holds back its power for future use.

The FACTS petition is about to be sent to president Nathan, and then we shall see if anything democratic will be taken.

NO NO NO NO NO

I don't want the next time I go to sentosa I meet those irritating gamblers there. I don't think it's a good image for Singapore as well. However... yeah, it's all about money.

ya.. i hate casinos.. i prefer singapore pools... wahahah.. lolx..

casinos sux big time.. ppl tend to get hammered bcoz of loan sharks.. but at singapore pools.. they wont.. haha... wats more.. u can earn 1000 bucks if u bet 5 bucks.. ah well.. i did..

Referandum? I suspect most people will vote for. Beer sponsor for SOFT? I have my preferred brand, so it does not amke a dif. Loan shark won't hamme Sing Pools punter? Most of those guys who truly got their doors splashed are not form casions but betting on lotteries and horses..

i was talking abt the soccer part of singapore pools... wahaha.. eh? tinking abt it.. im gonna bet later.. home utd vs paya lebah.. haha...

see, for the casino issue, not many of us have direct impact unless you are Las Vegas Sands. however, the same debate can be translated into a closer to us issue. as exemplified by the presence of a beer sponsor in SOFT. 8)

As for laws and rules implemented, there'll always be a certain degree of effectiveness, though not all can be justified. No Direct impact?... well, the direct impact is that it is in the environment we live in. Certain countries legalize smoking pot, n if 1 day it comes to us, u can still go say u aren't like them cos u take charge of your life. But its a matter of the "social problems that revolves around you" that you dun wanna see, juz like pooo has said.
