BOSS OS-2

if you're looking for the FF sound, I would be curious as to what your current rig is like. Maybe you could share with us what you have at the moment and if the OS-2 is the best way forward.

hi. im currently using a squier affinity tele and a zoom 707II. e clean fender reverb patch of the gadget is perfectly fine but the distortion is... omg. no offence to 707II users but there's simply too much gain even though i set it at lowest. not forgetting THAT digital sound. just won't go away. thinking of going analog so yea..

Go try them out? A quick summary, to my ears:
SD-1 - middish, compressed, a tubescreamer but grittier
BD-2 - open and bright
OD-3 - nice low end grit
OS-2 - have not tried it, unfortunately

Again, try them out is the best. All the words in the world cannot describe more than what you can hear with one chord struck.

i really like (and superkicky does too) randolf's mod for the blues driver. it can definitely do a ff/strokes sound..very nicely articulated midrange and great balance overall. it plays really well with other pedals too. we spent a couple of hours a/b-ing it with my mi audio crunch box and sparkle drive and using a zvex super duper and other stuff to drive it and the general consensus was that the blues driver gets driven and drives very nicely without too much hair in the sound (sorry shredcow :b) and cleans up really well..plus, there's one going for $80 at guitar connect last time i checked :D

jon__ i too thinkt he BD-2 is truely spectacular, that was the pedal I was looking to purchase and mod when some evil person had to post a blackstone for sale.

Among many reasons why I do refer to Boss pedals as a standard is because this company has consistently churned out great and reliable stuff and is constantly on the pulse of cutting edge guitar technology. This is a similar set of reasons why I refer to Fender, Marshal amps Fender, Gibson, PRS, Martin guitars, etc as reference points. They are not necessarily the best all the time just simply reference points. Getting oneself into (holier than thou) brand consious snobbery simply leads to time and money wasting ignorance.

The boutique pedals out there are usually personalized variations of the classics and some of them can offer interesting variations but still of the same theme. It's quite easy to get lost in the maze of option anxiety if one simply dives into this without a mental road map but one tip I can offer is to get as much tonal experience out of stock pedals against a wide variation of amps, guitars, pups, player and musical variation before you start splurging on the expemsive stuff getting dissapointed and start a long big circle... trust me on this 'cos I've seen others and myself gone through this. Heh :)

By the way I'm also a big fan of ADA, Rocktron, MXR, Digitech, EHX, Seymour Duncan, Jim Dunlop, ZVEX, Ibanez, Sansamp and of course Danelectros.

Any of the above will work fine ...just dialo the drive low and volume up with the tone set to taste....get your amp to its optimum gain ...where it starts vibrate ..and train your fingers to wing it ...oh ya don't forget your compulsary tight pants

Btw the Boss pedals can be moded ...in case noboday has said it for the MILLIONTH TIME :D ...to your preffered taste... 8O
