Bogner Alchemist Discussion

Hi guys just wondering.

Bogner Alc has 2 versions with similar specs but just that one is HEAD + CAB and the other is a combo.

Is there a difference? Or is it just because occasionally people may need the amp for recording purposes and they just bring the head along for their tone and all?

Well tonally i feel that there r some differences due to the enclosure design of a combo design and the amp head, but it is nothing too drastic. Amp heads r normally better due to the more solid cab construction that seperates the tubes and the speakers, insulation kinda thing.

Of course having a combo in some sense is more convenient if the place u r playing doesn't provide a speaker cab, but if it does than amp heads r considerably lighter and easier to lug ard imo.

Cant wait to test that Bogner Ecstasy when it arrives!

EDIT: Wait, this is an Alchemist discussion? oops sorry OT.

Wahaha it is cool ized, btw if u wanna try the alchemist, city music has a testing unit bro, just tried it a few days back and dun tell me u already ordered one Bogner Ecstasy for yourself??!!

...and there's still no Fender tones to be had. i tried single coils/ humbuckers/ a semi-hollow guitar with this amp.

I've given up trying to get a Fender tone from a non-fender amp. Unless it's a Fender amp clone. Unless the amp uses 6v6 or 6L6 tubes, it's almost impossible. Even on a Divided by 13, or on that cool Two Rock I tried in Japan, it still had to be a 6L6 or 6v6 tube. The ELs just don't cut it.

Yup whitestrat u r definitely rite in that aspect, the alchemist is loaded with two 6L6s at the power stage and five 12ax7s at the preamp stages, that's why fender tones can be achieved but i have to say it is not 100% fender if u get wat i mean, cause it is never meant to be a fender clone, it is a bogner. ;)

Huh can pm me instead bro? lol i tried the ecstasy a few years back and it blew me away!! That made me wanna have a bogner ever since even though i cant afford it haiz, that is why i am thinking abt the alchemist as an alternative......but still i am resisting.......haiz i am confused :(

hahah i think patience is the key the ecstasy blew me away too. the alchemist didnt wow me as much. i still love the shiva most though.. hey i thought u were a plexi fan?

Wahaha yes i was and still am, but in front of the bogner especially the ecstasy, the plexi just ain't no match lol!!! Never tried a shiva before but heard alot of clips, honestly very sweet as well, but ecstasy tops them all! Haiz........the alchemist's versatility is very attractive to me, it is like an amp that can kinda do it all, and it is pretty bang for buck now for $1k lol, but...........The G Amp is making me resist really hard, i just hope that it is not too ex!!!

the 7th thru the alchemist can pretty much get the XTC sound...with tweaking but an XTC is still an XTC. Vai used one before he switched over to Carvin (still preferred his bogner tone though, high gain but still touch sensitive and dynamic....something an amp like Mesa can never give you unless you go mod)

Will pm you when i get confirmation......... ;)

The other amp that is wayyyy out of my league but i would love to own.... An original Trainwreck Express.

Thanx alot ized! I totally agree with u that mesa can never achieve bogner's elusive sound, even their flag ship triple rect can't compare to the bogner uberschall that is much more ballsy, perhaps a "penta rect" from mesa in the future can close the gap haha.

As for the alchemist, it is an entry bogner with the the essential bogner tones just alittle bit on the diet side......so i wouldn't be surprise that the 7th can push it to the ecstasy level!

Btw which ecstasy u r gunning for? But just to let u into some secret lol, goose just revealed to me how his amp is gonna be like which is making me uber gased up and resisting the alchemist, if u r interested i can send u the email for reference and consideration keke. Cheers!

6L6 class-AB power section and five-12AX7 preamp; 20-watt variac mode. Nope, no Fender tones there for sure. Not single channel, not Class A.

As for being a Bogner, then that's good, because There's always room for more voicings. I want an amp that sounds like itself, or at least with a twist. Not something that sounds like something else for the sake of it.

Yup whitestrat i agree with u, but for some who can't afford the original make, gd clones r the way to go, say ceriatone for example, very gd amp makers imho and they r never really cloners cause their amps do have their special features to them that r absent on the originals.

Imo bogners do have a some fender twang to it, but thats abt it, it is never gonna sound like the original, fender is fender, marshall is marshall, mesa is mesa and nothing can take away their reputation for making revolutionary tone. Bogner is never meant to be similar to any of the above mentioned brands, but i just feel that bogner amps just have the knack in copping a wide variety of classic tones, which is their proprietory versatility......

Well the alchemist is just an entry bogner, something for the masses to have a taste of bogner, being priced much cheaper than any of its custom shop amps, it is very hard to compare, cause after all it is like a different league. But having said that, i feel that the bogner alchemist is a gd amp, with gd features, and built. Perhaps it just sounded sweeter to me, but of course there r always better amps out there waiting to be discovered. Cheers!
