BEST OF G3

agrees with Vheissu (sp?)

well John Petrucci is more on speed rather than actually feeling the music like Steve and Joe..

therefore i'd say Joe is the best as he focuses on his rhythm on G3 instead of trying to overdo the whole show and play some crazy assed solo..

-it doesnt need to be fast and complicated to be beautiful

Vai gives the audience entertainment on top of very impressive music. He has such feel, but his showmanship is real good. Make u feel u got more than wat u pay for, a concert...

i like the way he engages the crowd to feel like part of the show, n not like one standing aside at a guitar shop looking at a guy shredding away n wonder how does he do it. He does all the moves, but doesnt pass off as arrogant... Its quite funny in a way

Check out the clip on his website where the drummer for zappa plays zappa did a spoof of his for his B'day... real funny n cool

Yes, Petrucci stands and delivers, but it is a performance afterall and there has to be some degree of entertainment value. Petrucci hardly does anything else other than play his guitar but I guess people are still interested in seeing him play live because they wanna see how the hell someone can play with such speed and make almost no mistakes.

Vai is abit different...he has oragasms on stage. haha. he really wants to entertain and goes crazy about it (remember how he bashed his crybaby during The Audience Is Listening?) but I think he is overdoing his "whammy things" during the improv parts of G3 jams...

Satriani is more of a straight out blues rock kinda guy. Crazy legato runs...expressive as well, but not as much as Vai...

Vai messes up sometimes during performances but is the most entertaining, Petrucci is stunning technically, Satriani strikes a balance between them both.

So its like, there's no best, just who is good at what.

yah i wrote quite abit. I'm bored.

Twas a Bad Horsie during that song. :)

I love his "whammy things", I find it incredibly expressive and wild, never thought it overdone....

yeah i agree!

Vai is the most expressive player among all the G3 players throughout the concert!!

I love to see him play.. High entertainment value (esp when he starts to go crazy with Billy Sheehan & the bald rhythm guitar player).

The bald rythym guy is tony mcalpine. He is a v solid solo player in his own rights, play fusion stuff. But not widely known in the mainstream arena i guess.

True neuro, but problem is, they are "under-rated/hidden" because many of them can't right a proper tune.

By proper I don't mean a 5 min shredfest. Or a 3 minute pop tune. Instrumentals of course. By proper, I mean a piece that makes the ears perk up. Proper = high standard.

There's a difference between Satch, Vai, Mattias, Johnson, Clapton, Beck etc etc, and the said "under-rated/hidden" players... its not the skills, its the songwritting.

John5 man, should tour with G3.

Everytime i see G3 concert, all shred only, if not legato legato or whammy bar everyday, so boring......should some chicken picking man! bring in John5...

If i was on a deserted island with only one CD with me...i would rather it be satch than any other guitarist....at the end of the day..i am never in a mood to not enjoy satch...

ps.searching was the most kickass song on the G3 dvd....
