In Regards to Baybeats 08 thread post number 69. I tought it would be better for all the sarcasm , Views and judgements on the event be taken down here . leave the Baybeats post to the lovers.

I'll start with my view you guys can add on. Baybeats is an indie event. Understandable . Maybe not under the name of Baybeats but when are Heavier bands going to be given a platform as big as baybeats. Also what is your defination of Indie. Is it Indie or issit Just family?

ii hope that its indie for sure. Becoz maybe we need like a Rock AM in Singapore. I respect the amt of effort Baybeats places into organising this event . it really is not easy . But Can another organisation with the amt of working power actually do something like this for heavier bands . or does the govt look at us as the lost lambs ? I could already name close to 10 really good hard rock/ metal acts that could actually be of standard to play at the esplanade. and i'm sure if we put our heads together and give alil time we can hit 29.

I can remember one "heavy" band, Love me butch that played Baybeats.

Think the no heavy band policy is to avoid the so called "moshers first music lovers second" crowd from invading their peace.

actuali theres lotsa heavy bands played at Esplanade. just that we all dont knoe who they are. as for BayBeats i guess its really hard to say coz we dont knoe how they choose the bands for the auditions other that sending your Demo to them.

I've asked some of the guys at Baybeats about their selection criteria before. Which I've mentioned in last year's post.

a) Your demo MUST be audible. No MD recording in the jamming studio. It sounds like chicken frying in a pan. How do you expect anyone to hear what the hell is going on? You want a proper demo.

Record a live one at those jamming studios which support live recording? At $20 -25 an hr, it's decent. If your band cannot even scrap together this money as an investment, it's time to rethink this hobby.

b) Weekend/ amateur musicians like most of the peeps here have an tendency to overcompensate. Just becuz you as a band only get to rehearse once a week for 2 - 3 hours, it doesn't mean everyone MUST be heard. Everyone playing at intensely loud volume sounds like chicken frying in a pan.

And if you are a vocal-based band (even those screamo types), vocals are still the most important factor. Not everyone plays the guitar, yo. Please turn up the vocals in your mix.

c) Differentiate yourself. If out of 200 applications, there are 170 emo (or whatever is trendy at the moment) bands. What do you think your chances of getting in are unless your act is exceptionally tight?

d) Well, I guess sometimes if people don't like your music, they just don't like your music.


Sorry, threadstarter, this thread reeks of sour grapes. Heh. The band's pretty good. I rikes some songs. Anyway, I've always thought Baybeats was an emo-punk festival more than anything else.

yeah that has struck me too. for example AVA is on of my fav bands but they are heavy. so i want to know what is their idea of indie/alternative. Since they claimed it to be an indie event .

Kids are going to mosh anyway.there is a first aid booth there. Maybe Esplanade should organise an event to surface heavier bands. i'm sure it will hold more ballz and the kids will have fun. But danger is def something any organiser would wanna consider but then again how bad can our moshpit get . i'm sure the kids know what they are doing . there should be an alternative measure rather than. NO the crowd you attract mite do this and that...

If Everyband in singapore is indie should they be given a chance. what is their criteria besides recordings. like are they looking for a kind of sound. money is evil, but we need money in everything, including to rock and roll and mosh (oh, and to maintain a website for us to banter...)

a petition wont help us get money , but brings an obvious awarness to the main organisers. Ppl who have our funds and their power to do something for us.

And for you to say no internet to download songs , that is disgusting. How would you want ppl to support your music if you dont support theirs. even if you dont have a band or a Cd out . How are you supporting that artist . That is their bread and butter. I wont impose anything but i would say , maybe you could do without the internet and pop in to a CD shop. nothing like hearing it in CD quality and actually owning one bro.

i have my doubts..


firstly..the crowd..the kids..they will find ways and means to stir things up (in a bad way)..i'm very skeptical about their maturity when it comes to moshing and stuff..

secondly..the general public shud be educated about these moshpits or wad not..one way which they could be educated is for those moshers to show that its not all that dangerous..like say..helping a fellow mosher up when the fella falls..knowing when to start and stop..knowing the limits..and not be so self centered.

cos the casualties arising from the moshpits only projects a bad image about moshing...


if a unknowing member of public witnesses moshing goin on...he'll get various impressions..bla bla bla..

but wad if when the moshing is done..everyones fine and enjoying themselves while sweating it out..? the person might tink.."hey..it looked chaotic but everyone seemed fine..and there's no fighting.."

and wad if..the moshing is taking place..den u have security personnels pulling ppl out of the moshpit..kids coming out of the moshpit hurt..people fainting..people being carried out on stretchers..* like the aftermath of a war with casualties by the truckloads*

he'll be strongly against it..

HOLAS ! ok here i go. i think that Burrying Bagpacks is an awesome song . the scremos and gtr riffs Kill but the vocals need alot of work bro.and in the recording, its too upfront.

but i really think that if you work on the vocals you guys stand a really high chance. and i really like the dynamics changes in the song which makes it stand out

. but with some simple arrangements and more ballzy on pitch clean vox and a better recording ,your band mite stand a chance next year...

Hahaha, ShyamRaj, I think they have their hands full already to take on any new projects. I see most of my frens who work in the arts line macam damn cham. No life for a few months straight. They are working everyday.

Like what bro Pathein bro has mentioned, I'm sure if anyone could draw up a business plan or a plan with concrete plans on how the event can make money and how it can be executed. That's better than a petition which is chucked aside after being read. However, if you could write a detailed business plan, why do you need a venue owner like the Esplanade already to run your festival or shows?

If you want to, start your own show and do your own festival. Why wait for handouts?Kudos to my bro bros in Invasion Productions, bro wyluder and bro Syedo. They've turned being DGOs to being a decent career and business model.

Anyway, Baybeats is just a small bleep in the international playing field of music festivals. Usually, bands are close to the promoters who are behind the event. In the international festivals, the touring agents which the band managers book to secure their clients aka the bands have to have good working relationships with the music promoters. Good payment. Trustworthy credit line, etc. In Singapore, all you have to do is be the promoters' BFF (Best Friend Forever). Can already!

heh, might as well we be a good doer in life and bring in moeny to do something like than next time. Music biz is biz and shows are biz and biz need money. Awareness is good but if it doesnt bring in benefit of any sort, it wont work. I rather our fund are being release to us at an earlier age after we retire than to be the 85years old it will be or already is, then to do music for us coz they hold our fund.

haha, iam disgusting and i really couldnt care less for the downloading is stealing thing. Iam not a correct person over internet and real life anyway...
