Oh and I think some might misunderstand, I have NO effects infront of my amp, im trying to get the sound from my Amp on the Rect distortion mode. the "metal" mode sucks ass

Its Clear, organic, Upfront, Tight, Big mids great bass and Clear enough Treb. Ive tried some studio amps and one particular line 6 and they just didnt cut it.
most of them sounded like they were comeing from underwater and even with the treb up they were just totally different types of Distortions.

Also i really want to THANK everyone for chipping in to this very thread. Few hours already 5 pages long.

I wont be using these pedals for mid gain-ish type stuff. for a better idea on the Tones that im refering to

well ... ive tried quite a few high gain pedals... sansamps.. tonebone... crunch boxes , tubezones , barber, metalzone... etc..etc..etc... possibly not those pedals you have listed.

i believe those are perfectly good pedals in their own right.

but the openhaus is seriously not weak.

Well .. i dont own one...yet...i thought it was probably one of those overhyped bullshit boutique pedals raved about here all the time.....

then i tried kennethC's thru my setup and a/b'ed with my barber direct drive ss (which ive gigged and used for arnd 2yrs)

after trying it... well i was 100% convinced... it is a better gain pedal..better then anything ive ever tried.

i have since ordered my own from toneczar....

The MT-2 actually gives a nice rectified sound. If Metallica floats your boat(using their tones as an example heh). problem is it sucks ass for solos, good for riffing IMO. You may wanna try a modded one, works wonders.

The sansamp gt-2 is one of the best cost effective solutions. Metallica and classic rectified tone no problem at all. The new version sounds more sterile so try to get the older version if you see one, they usually don hang around for long. For leads just boost with a tubescreamer or sth for saturation and you are more or less set.

Or if you want a more extreme modern tone, try the amt line of pedals. The du hast has that really deep low end that creeps well into Rectified territory and more.

I had the tubezone too, it gives the rectified vibe but imo it lacks the grit and the tightness required for the chug in Metallica style palm muting, unless you plan to introduce a booster type od pedal to stack with it, e.g a tubescreamer. It does give off an extremely smooth mesa vibe though, and its super dynamic even with the gain maxed.

Urgh, really tempted to trade the Reeza for TZ.... Been looking for that a high gain pedal as well and the Reeza just will not do. It does the Marshall crunch nicely but apart from that it gets drowned out in the mix too often.

More expensive is not necessarily better....

but in the case of the Openhaus....

it's hard to say it isn't better, esp if you're using humbuckers, and yes with a real tube amp with high headroom. I hope you guys won't be put off by the price to begin with...try one out if you get the chance to, I don't think you'll regret it at all(maybe ur wallet will).

This Chanmin, I tell you, he was never an easy one to win over when it came to pedals. The numerous OD/Distn pedals I've owned...he's gone thru almost all of 'em, but nothing caught him with his pants down like the Openhaus did. He gave it 1-2 mths, and I thought maybe his GAS would just fade (as does most other GAS-eous situations for us), but it actually grew stronger, and he finally placed his order for one. Finally, something to put his Barber DDSS to rest.

Looking for Linkin Park tones? Try a PRS CU24 into an Openhaus and a clean tube amp with decent amt of headroom. Let us know if that's still weak-sounding.

Interestingly enough, I thought the Tubezone was a great little pedal for use at home, but somehow it always got lost in the mix in church. When I plugged my CU24 into the TZ into a Roland Cube30x at home, I thought I heard Nickelback. But when I played it on stage...I could barely hear it thru the monitors. So I'm not sure the TZ will solve that issue you're facing with the Reeza.

Well, PRS Cu24 or any other set-necked mahogany bodied equivalent with humbuckers...don't matter what brand it is. The reason I mention PRS CU24 is also cos that's what MC of Linkin Park uses.. logically one would try to use a similar guitar (and pickups) and then search for a pedal that can make a clean amp sound like the real Boogie...at least that's what I'd do.

If you're trying to make a single coil strat sound like the PRS...then that's a different topic, and I don't think you'd be too successful either. Even a typical SSH strat (alder body with maple neck) doesn't sound like the PRS on the bridge pup. We have to be realistic sometimes, and appreciate the fact that different guitars are used in varying context for specific reasons. A pedal alone will not do the trick, my friend.

I guess our tastes could vary...but that isn't my cuppa tea. Sounds like something you can get from a digitech GNX4 - no offence to owners of the pedal. Just saying it sounds like digital distortion, something I frankly have little faith in, after trying a myriad of analog dirt pedals. The amp dudes would say, "Nothing beats real amp distortion", and I'd agree wholeheartedly. So real amp distn > analog dirt > digital-sounding or digital dirt, for me.

Sorry if we've come across as trying to hype up the Openhaus...seriously no intention to do so. The less Openhaus owners the better, actually. One day, if Ed Rembold decides to stop producing the Openhaus, we could sell ours for a nice profit All I'm saying is don't let the internet sound clips tell you what the pedal is like, try it if you can. If you can't, then do consider inputs from other ppl who have done so. If the AMT SS20 rocks your boat, seriously go for it

yeah, any Humbucker guitar with maho as its body.

but the samples alone, not refering to what guitars they used, sounded more upfront than the openHaus

I am not specifically refering to any guitar types but rather Focusing on the Type of distortion that a pedal can produce itself

Yes i do know what you said was correct, single coil, alder and stuff like that but it all comes down to the sound demos. They're just 2 differnt types of distortion and the openHause on the FIRST demo might be great but he played only single note lines so i cant really judge from that. but the 2nd sound sample was not too beefy

he was using a PRS CU24 on what i would call a "Rock" tone maybe? It was Nice for that, the backing track i assume was also made using teh openHaus which was also pretty good.

I tried the openhaus for quite some time ago. its a nice pedal if you have a big watt amp with 1 or 2 12' speakers. If its a small watt amp with 8-10' speakers. doesnt sound nice to me.

Only other pedal i used extensively for a few years was the humble DS-1 ... as we all know.. its a $60 pedal.

Most impt for me is performance & quality... not brand/price.

For those who are able to try out an openhaus ... im pretty sure you will be sold. i mean... to buy a 400USD pedal that sounds "ok" is really... omgz. - well thats imho.

thru a genz benz G-flex cab.

I tried the Openhaus with Shreddy's Golbin amp. really clean. Thru a 1x12" cab. Nice... But no cigar. It's not too bad, heavy, but I wanted something with more thump... Again, it could be the speaker (dunno what he was using), or could be the 6v6 the amp uses. Maybe paired with EL84s or 34s, the pedal would be more ballsy...
