Overall The Lions played well and was in control of the game and the boys could have easily scored 3-4 goals last night. No disrespect of the Vietnamese team, but their winning goal was an easy one due to The Lions lapse. Please don't blame it on LUCK boys - work on your finishes...not your LUCK. Work hard for next month's Asian Cup Lions. Go Lions Go!!! \m/

That's quite a shame, I know taunting is quite normal in many countries. but I never expect Singaporeans, grown in a developed country, do taunt others too. Now that's something unheard of..haha

You can see how the English fans taunt and attack the visiting fans :) They are a developed country too :)

Though yesterday was a great match, I was really disappointed with the lions TT

The lions show no sportsmanship, even after knocking the Vietnam @_@ oH man.

If there's any lack of sportsmanship its the Vietnamese players. We all saw how they faint injuries and stall playtime :/

seeing the lions play..sometimes is like watching liverpool play..it frustrates u to the max!!!!

yesterday was too..they seem to be jus circling on the vietnam goal area but no one has the courage to attack the nipple!!!!

disapponted yes..but lets see hw they bounce back after failure.....

The reason for last nite's failure was simple. The Lions just didn't convert the chances that they had and paid a very heavy price for it. Somehow for once throughout the whole tournament, I felt that we needed Duric for this game. Wilkinson's absence in the midfield also contributed to the lacking of attacking ideas during the game. Playing the long ball 80% of the time just seems like a desperate and hopeful tactic to me.

However, kudos to Vietnam for applying their game plan(time wasting, fast counters attacks, etc...) that perfectly worked against the Lions. It was not a pretty match but I guess the better team during the two legs won in the end.

Hope Raddy will stay on longer to guide the Lions to the Asian Cup next!

We blame it on luck. We blame it on the Vietnamese. But as Cavett pointed out, the loss is due to 2 things: Singapore didn't convert their chances, and conceded a goal cos of defensive error.

Good play, good effort, good everything, but who else can they blame apart from themselves?

Yea i totally agree with bro Cavett. We can blame the world but we still lost. Now we gotta pick up the pieces and challenge for the Asian Cup next! I didn't watch the match but i guess it was our fault. If we can convert those chances we create, we'll be able to beat just about anyone. It reminds me of Liverpool of old, long balls, bad finishing, losing due to silly goals. Lolz.

Viet-nammmmmmmm.

How Precious is able to get a place in the starting line-up is beyond me.

I think John Masefield would have done a better job than he does his guest pundit role in Football Focus.

How Indra didn't start the game is puzzling.

Baihakki Khaizan is very much like John Terry of Chelsea. If someone like
Aaron Lennon runs against him, he'll be miles behind.

Why they took off Nor Rahman, i do not know. this substitution led to the goal, remember?

His replacement Ismail Yunos is a throw-in specialist but he fumbled in the build up to Vietnam's solitary goal. There can be no excuse for him cos he's a regular in the Young Lions side who competes week in, week out in the S-league. I understand he did not play football for quite sometime prior to his appearance last night. but even better, he didn't play in the initial group stages of the Suzuki cup.

Why Daniel Bennett was slotted in the left-back berth is mind-boggling. he is an out-and-out right back. so why?

Shi Jia Yi thinks he is Robert Pires. but yeah, his deliveries are good, the finishing from the attackers were indeed lacklustre.

There not not have been any substitutions for Singapore.

even if they din get the goal in normal time, there is always ET and then penalties.

but i want to point out one thing.

Vietnam, straight after the final whistle, headed by the coach, ran to their supportes and celebrated.

Very much like Manchester United, after every game.

Kudos to Vietnam and Mr Carlito.

u meant paul masefield :)

and indra doesnt deserve to start imo. agu is the top scorer for the team while we need NAS physical presence. but it was a good subsitution to replace agu cause he was looking tired and indra look like he had something to prove.

bennett had been the resident left back for spore for a couple of years now. no one thats good enough can replace him there. maybe shaiful esah in the future but not now. right back, theres noh rahman and ismail yunos. isa halim can play there as well.

I was at the National Stadium last night, cracking atmosphere! :D

All right,i agree,we should point out that Singapore's finshing in front of goal was lacklustre, and i will say that Noh Alam Shah is the main culprit. He missed a couple of chances in front of goal. This is an important factor in the defeat.

BUT,let's look at it from another point of view,IF the Vietnamese hadn't wasted so much time, who knows if a Singaporean attack during those precious few minutes could have led to a goal, even two?I can safely say that football is unpredictable. And as for Singapore kept on playing while a Vietnamese player was rolling about on the field, that was completely justified in my opinion. The ref have no protests, and look at the Vietnamese who rolled on the pitch before that.Once they found out that they've gotten a foul, they recovered immediately and was quite happy to play on.Such time-wasting tactics are completely justified,i agree, but Singapore is also completely justified in countering these tactics and playing on if the ref had no protests or stopped the play, which he didn't.

So,in my opinion,i think last night's defeat's responsibility can be split 70-30 percent to Singapore and Vietnam respectively.

Well.... i just copy and paste ...

I went out quite early to avoid the crowd and I saw one man broke his nose. Most likely a vietnamese. When I got to my car, can see some Singaporean wind down the window shouted vulgarites and pointed mid-finger at a coach(bus) full of Viet. And kept cutting their queue to exit. I mean like it is just a match why get so worked up? lol & some of the singaporeans didn't stand up when the vietnam national anthem was playing =x but the all the vietnamese stood up when its our turn. clearly, they've more fan-man-ship then some of us seriously. Then I saw dumb kids yelling "Campak lighter! Campak lighter!" and they were throwing their lighters at the feet of Vietnamese leaving the stadium. At the East Entrance fights were breaking out and I saw a Malay uncle grabbing his baby and running down the steps because it was getting out of hand and his family had the risk of being caught up in it. The Malay uncle had a couple of kids too and what if he had fell? I personally had to grab a Vietnamese fan and push him back because he was in a blind panic and he nearly run headlong into my gf and could have knocked her down. I feel sorry for him because he was being chased by the crowd. I saw people being funny and blocking ambulances when it's obvious people were being hurt. Somebody grabbed a Viet flag somewhere and they were burning it when a CISCO officer came flying in with his baton. I was at the overhead bridge when I saw a couple of Vietnamese being brutally punched in their faces. Their faces were bleeding pretty heavily. I am ashamed at the behaviour of large numbers of our fans. Totally crossed over the line. Most of all I am angry that there was insufficient police protection and organization. Those CISCO cops were almost helpless. It looked like they couldn't be bothered to take contingencies for a worst-case scenario. What if some drunk kids had a few beer bottles on hand and thought it would be fun to whack a few Viets for the fun of it?

wow!thats what i call football hooligans,Singapore style!

The Singaporean hooligans are a total disgrace. The police and stadium securities are no better either. I feel for the Vietnamese fans and those people who brought their families and children. They must have a traumatic time. However, I'm surprised that despite all the rioting, chaos and injuries, the police was slow to react and not a single arrest were made (But the police is extremely quick in arresting people at Speakers Corner or people with kangaroo t-shirts outside the court, but that's another story! ;)). In this incident, the police is KAYU!

Anyway, I hope Vietnam wins the Cup final.

this is purely stupid.
singaporean fans assaulting the vietnamese fans at our home ground..
the vietnamese were punched after the match and the sg fans ran riot right?
and if sg fans were to come to vietnam for another tournament match in the future, they're gonna get back what they have given the vietnamese fans in sg, which is purely an act of hooligans. you can have fun punching the vietnamese fans, but not the the extent of burning the vietnamese national flag, thats an act of a fag!

Maybe they get back with even more violence. Countries like Vietnam, Myanmar and Thailand, and even Indonesia have been known for their die-hard supporters and I admit, Indonesians love riots..haha..So you never know what they got in store for you guys (Singaporeans)

I mean, I always love soccer. I always advice my friends that as long as it is a fair game and a good one, I don't care which side won or lost actually. Just like Indonesia lost to Singapore 0-2. That was a good game, hell I am dissapointed, but 'the ball is round', things just happen.
