No offence intended but,

I think people with 9-5 lives(including myself) have really bad tempers and have to put aside alot of personal issues just to cope.

On the other hand, I also think that people who don't have 9-5 lifes IN SINGAPORE can't really make much money(I've never personally met a person who earns 5-10k working from home or those weird weird jobs)

I'm just intrested to know whats everyone's view on this cos it seems like the society IN SINGAPORE now is 9-5 based, if not you don't really earn much.....

agreed....even as a student with working experiences i think singaporeans are always packed with work on their minds everyday.

i c london and australia or some other country...6pm and its nightlife time for them

but money's so important in a country like ours

so... what do people do when they are not working? sleep? visit orchard road?

i think i rather work

i think singaporeans are too aggressive. dunno how to relax and no sense of humour. why? because our society has zero-tolerance for mistakes and will hantam those who don't succeed

Well has life got better over the years? This is a question you must ask yourself. Are we working harder to cope with the increases in daily expenses?
Sure the economy "grows" a lot. And the money goes into.....pockets.
Those on top will become richer while those at the bottom get left behind.
So do we have to work harder to survive this mad rat race?

sell your soul to the government la.. that's how the freakin system works.. a low class coolie will always be a low class coolie.. im just too lazy to care.. u can never expect the unexpected... expect for the worst... im just waiting to strike big on toto or 4d and get the flack off man... here we are working like dogs and dogs are relaxing like humans..

First of all, it all depends on our direction in life. Money is necessary for survival but not everything in life. I used to work a so called 9-5 job in my earlier years of my working career. But 3/4 of my life is at work don't even have time for music which I stopped totally during that time. Life really sucks, the money is good but happiness is none.

But after travelling and working abroad, I have learnt things along the way. Now back in Singapore for almost 3 years now, I start with a humble working environment. Still working 9-5, accepting lower pay and enjoying the life. No stress but a lively working environment. Well, not everyday is a lively one though but surviving the years working in the same environment I am not as ambitious as I was before. Saturdays and Sundays are the time for me with family or playing on a gig. Occassionally, I jammed during the weekdays with friends.

If you ask about the amount of salary to which is enough, I would say nothing is enough. If you have that much, spent it wisely. Though, I'm not financially at my best but I believe I am much a happier person than I was before.

Well said there bro tetra : )

I think 1 reason why we spend so much time with our music equipments and jamming is cos it provides us with an avenue to release the built up stress and frustration, and to feel free, so now i work a boring job to finance my freedom at night.... Its all in the mindset. Of course it helps if your colleagues are fun too...

Harlow XLayaR,

you are having a 9-5 job and U R Complaining????!!!!

Some ppl are paid 9-5 but work 9 to 11pm or 12am everyday....

Averge hourly rate is lower than what MacDonalds pays....

I'm thankful with a new 9-6 job. :D

I have to disagree with that last comment. IMO working a 9-5 doesn't mean you'll definitely get rich. There are jobs that pay way more than a 9-5er. And I also don't know many 9-5er who earns 5-10K.

Thats just a biased statement to make.

ps. i'm a 7-4 btw...

C'est La Vie

Yes, in a way it is true that some people are contented and happy with 9 - 5 jobs or stable shift jobs. As long as they have enough to eat, a bit to spend, can support a small family, can somehow afford the debt for a car for the family to zip around in - life's good. Hey, to society - that is what's perceived as success right?

To others, like me for instance, I have just taken the plunge and quit my post at a statutory board and see for myself how it feels to be able to have much more control of your time, your own life. After 6 years working 9 -6, I have concluded that the money is just not worth my time and sanity, not to mention my health. So, I decided to take a breather and strike out on my own.

To me, a business is a business - rarely can somebody make tons of money in a short time. So, right now money is not that good for me but personally I am taking that as a holiday - a relaxation period. When I have work, I have money. If I don't, I'll just make do with some savings or get a little creative with things that I previously purchased but no longer need. But of course, I am taking steps to make my venture flourish and become profitable enough for me to be financially independant in the future.

And how does it feel?

It feels damn GREAT!

Previously, my moods, my health, my social life and my sanity were like half controlled by my work environment and the people. Especially the incompetent bosses who don't exactly know what they were talking about. I worked 9 - 6 and that made up like 3/4 of my day already and I felt that there is much more to life than just work. Of course, there are some lucky people who get paid a lot to do stuff that they love to do. Or at least enjoy.

So, I think - to each his own.

If you can find a 9 - 5 job doing something that you love, and have excellent colleagues who are competent and be good friends outside of work - good for you.

If you think you are a risk-taker who dare to take on life and dare to face adversities and ignore people who think you can't make it - then go for it!

At the end of the day, it is your life and it is your version of happiness that you seek.

Not others'.

:-D

agree with hecklerkoch

but also your needs and wants will change over time from being a student to a working adult. all part of life and growing up.

To me, being able to start at 9 and ends work at 5pm and making a decent living is already a luxury.

If you don't want to work 9 to 5 and still make loads of money....sure.....just stay home and play the overseas stock market lor. Work according to the hours of the market.

weekdaily and alternative weekends, i'm working a 9 - 6 office job which I have totally no interest or find satisfaction in. then from 7 on to midnight , I freelance record bands / mix or fix some family guy's kid's computers and answering his questions on how to prevent his son from watching porn or how to check if they're surfing naughty sites.

currently my recording passion is keeping me going on. I don't want to (gamers don't diss me here, individual preference) play pc games or just go orchard or watch movies. all costs money. so recording is a side pocket money and at the same time gives me that fun factor.

so that's how musicians keep sane I guess, they do the jobs related to the stuff they find fun. like how avid gamers go work at LAN shops, or at those Xbox shops. musicians play at pubs/work at music shops. moviebuffs join in film productions or work part time as an usher at golden V or cathay.
the income is barely "5K to 10K" but i'm sure you'll be a happier person. unless you work at a "5K to 10K" job that totally bums you out, but you'll have a tendency to spend 4K to 8K just to "relieve" yourself.

the rest and more has been said by heckler.
