so what you're saying is, we have to present an impression that the whole of singapore loves each and every single foreign band that exists and we welcome them with pink puffy pillows? they probably take worse criticism and dissing all the time, as evidenced by any US music forums. you dont see them being whiny bitches about it most of the time.
true, but its a forum. if you wish to dispute the fact that a certain band "sucks" you are more than welcome to ask the poster for his reasons and start a discussion.
overt political correctness however, is something that bugs me immensely..i dont mince words to spare feelings,its pointless.

different strokes for different folks. no matter how terrible a band seems,there will always be someone who likes them. case in point, in that infamous final countdown video, im actually amazed at how consistently the singer can sing half a step flat throughout the whole song. respect. :wink:
i never intended to start an intelligent,thought-provoking discussion (obviously the wrong place to do it) when i started this thread. i was simply bored and thinking back to how terribly bad Pungent Stench were when i saw them live. if anyone wants i can provide a detailed 5000 word report to justify my stand to some kid on the internet. :roll:

Hmm alright. But then again, not every individual would react in the same way.
It's not about loving every other band. It is about the mutual respect we can have for them, whether or not we love, hate, tolerate etc, because everyone is entitled to their choice of music and how they view certain things.
I would definitely love to look at the story from your point of view, on a specific band deemed to have "sucked"
Our points of views are obviously very different. It would be good to exhibit a little bit of sensitivity to spare the feelings of those who might take comments in the wrong way.

with reference to the "kid" remark, i wasnt referring to you or anyone in particular. i'd be more than happy to have a chat on the subject in person over a beer or two if i'm free...drop me a PM or something.
however,its my opinion that people are way too sensitive nowadays and the trend of supressing supposedly "hot" topics and posts on this forum only serves to further perpetuate that mentality. a thick skin is essential in this business because people are going to bitch no matter what. like i said before, if you cant take the heat, get out of the kitchen.
Pungent Stench: they played on practically the same equipment as the other bands on the bill (nile/behemoth/incantation/belphegor/unleashed): JCM800s/JCM2000s/dual rectos, but with drastically different results. firstly the guitar sound was horrible, thin,buzzy and chainsaw like. the bass was a muddy mess despite the small 3 piece lineup and the vocals were choked and scratchy. the overall sound of the band was extremely weak and amatuer sounding and the songs, extremely simplistic and boring. you cant blame the equipment/venue as all the bands used a similar backline and sounded great. as previously stated, i wasn't the only one that thought so as nearly the entire crowd started moving towards the bar area leaving only a few diehards.
Corrosion of Conformity: boring and monotonous to the point that i literally fell asleep a couple of times. on record,they sound pretty decent but they simply couldnt pull off an interesting live show IMO.
Smashing Pumpkins: as much as i love the band, i was sorely disappointed when i saw them years ago. they seem bored,uninterested and merely going through the motions. i will however cut them some slack as james iha supposedly had food poisoning before the show. but on tonnes of videos i've seen of them they have the tendency of speeding up alot of the songs to ridiculous levels and corgan's singing...sigh.

Is Poo of vintage the guy who uses a line 6 guitar? If so then, you must not watch many bands live. My friend's band, who play real nice metal stuff didn't go through after auditions. The judges still said the music was power, so i dont know why they werent chosen.

Dream Theater LIVE is more of how they sound, and the technical+melodic+bandtightness ability than jumping around making the crowd go HOO-HAA! their gigs are seated and peaceful. not like slipknot, ozzy, etc. stuff and all tho zack was w00t.
