I've been saving up and thinking about buying an Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus. A new one with bag, picks, strap will cost me 700 sgd. However when I told my friend this, he flipped out and went on rant about how Gibson's and Epiphone's are overpriced and overrated and how I should go for a Cort. Sadly, I'm quite clueless when it comes to guitars so I'll appreciate any tips or advice I can get. My friend said something about Les Paul's being old and how I should go for some Japanese made newer models which fit the market better or something. I'm really not sure.

*edit*
and where can I find a guitar shop in marine parade?

If I were in your shoes and wanted to get an LP, I'd get a Jap LP clone.

Edwards will be my first choice.

If I had the money, it'd be a used gibson LP standard.

Above mentioned is assuming I want an LP.

A lot of factors need to be considered when buying a guitar.
Buy one you feel comfortable with. Also to note, Cort makes some really good guitars. They OEM for quite a few brands.

I particularly like their vine of life inlays on their mid priced models. Very affordable guitars. Try them, you may like the feel.

I think you watch too much of 300 the movie.

this is madness!

THIS IS SPARTA!!

story of the madnessman.

okay to topic Beez has a place at marine parade and ebenex is in katong.
btw what to you play cause its pretty vital for choosing guitar.

LPs are overrated, they have a very major issue with playability, however, it shouldn't really matter if you don't foresee yourself being a shredder in the future.

Since I'm still learning I don't really have a genre I play yet. But I'll probably end up playing rock. Think Guns N' Roses, Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Incubus, etc...

I've read good things about Beez on this forum. Where in Marine Parade would he be? I relatively close to St. Pats.

You might want to consider waiting for a cheap 2nd hand Epi lp to appear in the buy sell section. For about 400-500 you can get one already. Epi les pauls aren't sucky but not the best around too, some of them isn't too good and you should bring an experienced friend to test the guitar before buying. If you got money , go for the Japan ones , they are good stuff.

lol ya go for japanese made guitars instead, eg edwards if you want a guitar. generally japanese guitars have a more consistent QC so you do not have to really worry if your guitar is not well built or anything.

as for epi or gibsons, you might wanna go for a epi LP studio. they look and sound good for their prices.

and slash has hands like michael jordan, which explains why he can shred on a LP :)

Guitar

Buying an EPI LP first hand, must as well get some other guitar like SWING, MARLIQUE from standardvalue. Very nice to play..looks good to. Browse around SOFT classifieds, now and then you'll find some good deals! Also try as many guitars as possible, then you'll find something you really like.

I would love to get a Marlique but they cost a grand. Swing is a little expensive but the Swing EZ100 looks pretty good.

Does Beez just service guitars in Roxy Square or does he sell as well?

And can I get a little more advice about the Cort?

i don't see anything wrong with gibsons or epiphones. overpriced they are... but aren't most things nowadays?

no offence but your friend might be biased against gibson or epi from personal experience or preference. so you should just try them out yourself and see which one YOU like.

you might wanna compare the neck, tone, looks etc.... all the best dude!

Epis are overrated ? i think they are underrated and wrongly rated . especially MICs

and i swear i was gonna say have you met zakk wylde...

i would go for the Epi if i were you . try both guitars before buying it , its how it suits you and not what "other people" think .

shred not on LP ?? don't go far bros..

probably haven't met our own mr paul daniel..tell him that he can't shred on a LP
hahaha

What's all these about shredding?!
He's just starting out for God's sake. Should be lookin at comfort level and playability.
And also cheap but practical.

The shreddin' thing can come later when his knowledge grows and i'm sure he'll invest in something more suited to whichever style he's gonna play in the future.

In the meantime, do be advised to try as many guitars as you can before your purchase.
It's a make or break thing. Very, VERY important i must stress.

bro travisk

agreed..but read earlier posts..LPs are over rated ? etc etc..
my point being a good guitar is a good guitar, be it an LP or a Strat,RGs or whathaveyous...if you can play a guitar well, it does not matter what shape or size or made..

a very well made guitar might inspire a learner to be better at it or a pro to create his magnum opus

at the end of the day...its a wood with six strings meant to bring joy/happiness/nirvana to the user and the listener.im doing it every nite-7 days a week..with my 2 biggest fans..that is HAPPINESS
