Guys i just brought a new guitar
SX , Custom Guitars
Eagik/Na
i purchase it
at Davis, Penisula.

Anyway i tried practising with the Chords From A to G
But i sound so werid.
And i not sure whether my left hand is pressing the strings correctly.
It's because lets say i'm doing a E chord
My number 1 finger will be at the first fret 3rd string
My number 2 finger will be at the second fret 5th string
My number 3 finger will be at the secoind fret 4h string
Am i right.
When my left hand is already in position , i try using my right hand holding a pick and played.
I used the pick and play one string by one string one by one
from the 6th string to the 1st string
when i played the 6th,2nd and 1st string it sounds okay
but the 3rd , 4th and 5th string
hm.. how do i say it. It's something like no sound
it's really very weird

Can someone please help me.

It aint the instrument, most prolly its your fretting fingers..

Most of the the time, for someone new to the geetar, fretting hands often takes a while to get use to. Practice more and soon you will get the hang of it. One month, 2 months, 1 year and so on.

if you wanna test out whether is it you or the instrument, heres one way to find out.

Dont fret the E chord yet, fret one string at a time.

eg-"My number 1 finger will be at the first fret 3rd string" Pluck this string only, can you hear this one note ringing out?

After that, do the same for individual string on the 4th then follow by the 5th string

If you can fret individual string and play it with sound and cant combined it to do the chord. Most prolly what you are facing bout the "weird no sound" situation, will be on your own fingering.

Practice more, not in term of just fretting the chord and going thru motion, A to G. Instead, you might like to use Google to look for the chords to your favourite songs and learn how to strum your geetar to those songs, to get use to fretting chords and changing between chords

Best way to check.. Form the chord, and play it string by string..
Does every note ring clear?
If it does (and you're playing the correct chord), and if the problem still persists, I guess you didn't tune your guitar properly then..

Yeah I suspect your guitar's out of tune. If your guitar has a floating bridge (tremolo), you have to tune each string several times before it will stay in tune. Tune from the 6th string to the 1st and then repeat the process again.

no sound? like that is not untune leh... press harder. hahaha. maybe ur string action is way too high that u have to press super hard. ok i talk crap. but true, no?

dont know how to tune? buy a tuner? use guitar pro? use online tuner?

I think he's talking about a muted string. I doubt that has anything to do with tuning. You have to press the chords properly, I think thats it.

Thats not an E chord , it takes time . Don't worry , and do get a tuner cause its one of the first things you get when you start guitar . Get someone to teach you guitar

Actually it is not just press harder...there are many other techniques involved...

Are all your fingers in a standing position? So that they will not touch other strings....are all your nails trimmed? so that your nail is not pushing your touch away from fretboard...Is your hand relax...too tense will make it worse sometimes.......infact...when fret..it is just a soft touch...not really pressing so hard....unless the action is really bad.....are you pressing nearer to the fretwire to the soundhole? also...if you can't reach the chord, did you lower you thumb behind the fretboard and leaves some space between neck and your palm....so you can have some strength to exert the on strings....

Get someone to teach you, not through video or what but in person.

There's always the tuner suggestion but my clip-on digital tuner is not reliable, so I just get E (or D if doing drop-D) on 440, and the other strings I tune by ear.

uh... Why is that not an EMaj Chord?

Don't worry. That IS a E major chord indeed.

What happen could be due to unclean frets? Maybe there's dirt or something on the fret that is preventing the strings from vibrating freely.

Or maybe you are just not pressing the strings hard enough. Remember to press it down till the string touches the fret. And try to position your fretting finger directly behind the fret to ensure a clear sound is produced.
