Why are Singapore Movies/ Music not so popular as Hong Kong.

Now let's leave Maggi and Me outta the discussion.. >.>

And honestly speaking, VRman, yes the idea was there. But was it good? Did anybody buy into that franchise? Was it ridiculed? Would anybody in their right mind wanna continue that production(and risk being a joke)?

Yes there were brilliant flashes in the local scene. However. Sitcom aside, have ANY of you actually seen a serial that doesn't drift far from that formula?

I doubt it.

And apart from us on this forum, do YOU think that ppl elsewhere in Singapore care if the local entertainment industry sucks? I doubt so. You know why? Because they have access to alot of better foreign shows. They want local soaps? They have their daily dose on Channel 8 every night at 7. They want local comedy? Tuesday nights on Channel 5. You want variety? Well variety isn't really a showcase of local talent, is it? I'll skip that. I think that's as far as the local media can go(albeit willingly).

Damn i'm hungry...

Ok i'm bored of having no life and typing all this shit.

Can we just blame it on lousy ass screen-writers, bad actors and pussy producers?

:D

Growing Up/The Ride Home/Lightyears/Spin

Nothing wrong with "family" shows, something seriously wrong with secondary school people being able to write better scripts than them when they're not even paid to do so. (I shit you not)

That's what we've been doing.

old sitcoms were pretty good shit... happy belly and the first few seasons of pck... growing up was good...

then i heard some of the old writers left... resulting in the lousy crap we're watching. :?

Hell yeah Growing Up was good.. But is it just me or was there serious government propaganda undertones to it amidst the drama? Hmmm...

James Lye in a rubber bodysuit shooting coloured rays out of his wrist at a villain named Dr Tan.

Need I say more?

p.s. Nazri, I was joshing about the VR man bit. -.-

No lah bro, tick tock man was the second villain. The idiot who threw the preserved bird at the girl.

Yeah it was..

I remember only this one scene where James Lye met his "master" in Haw Par Villa or something.. Even for as 7 years old last time, i found it stupid.. :/

Bro SherT bro, gawd no!!! The gallery of villians VR Man has is right up there with Batman!!!

Just a simple note that I always believe in for our Singapore scene from where I left of previously in this thread...

If everyone is so resistent to change, what's going to improve? Think about it as a business, you are comfortable in your working system right now. BUT you're looking at higher profits and better productivity. What do you do now? Change! Be it working procedures... or new products... you do not stop evolving.

Look at MTV ... they are changing and evolving all the time. Jo left into post-production work, Nadya moved on to concentrate on her family, in came UTT and fellows ... when they finally realised May and Choi are ass bitches ... MTV fired them. (Only recently) Change and change ... it's inevitable if you want to stay at the front.

Likwise here, when you's say "don't change something when it's not spoil" ... you are obviously in the comfort zone. Where's the improvement? All I can say is, if the local scene stays the way they are right now... they are just another boring media. I'm not saying they cannot be a fantastic one, I'm just saying IF they stay the way they are now.

i heard MTV Asia suffered a loss and closing down?

They did make a loss, that's what I know from insiders. But they are definitely closing down.

Edit: I mean they are definitely NOT closing down.
