Which Tele would suit me best?

should consider this one:

Between 3 single coils and 2 humbuckers and oodles of wiring variations, I got more tones that I know what to do with. The Tele is something I've always been fascinated with, but I have no clue how to play one. Especially that miniscule sounding neck pickup. *sigh*

Tone wise...Sub, that Squier tele is not a real tele ...eventho it looks like one ...sorry!!

Besides vintage ...the best tele that i have played with are those early Japanese Fenders with their stock pups... ;)

for you, JMS.. i would say.. a Fender Japan 52 or 62 reissue with texas special pickup option.. commonly found at peninsula around your budget.

Sure Sub...but that squier is a looker tho...;)

The signature tele tone comes from the angled bridge pup and the placement of the neck pup.
I know this ...as I’ve tried deviating from the above combination and it drifts the tele tone to something else.

So if you are goin for a tele with its “tone” ...please consider the above.

oh boi ...

you just made my day ....

Btw look at the second guy from the left ...trying to hide something ....ha ha

I would go for the 72 thinline
only down for me is the lack of finishes on the tele.
But then again, it would be wise to have a go at those you are planning to get. Sometimes specs and reviews alone will not cut what does it for you.

Hey James, I just tried the Baja Tele today at Swee Lee, ran thru a Peavey Bandit 112. Gotta say, it's one hell of a Tele, the cleans are suberb, and the distortion was great! Just like they say, Telecasters are the most versatile guitars (subjective), I have to agree. I wasn't expecting the drive to be good, but hell, it was great! I think you should get it.

My only problem with it was the weight. You were right, it's dang heavy!
