For me, I'll take

Coldplay - coz they're able to keep it commercial while being a bit alternative
John Mayer - the guy has chops but his faces when playing have to go..

Pier.

hmmm...dunno any leh...most of them are made to rake in as many money as the companies tt signed them can, and then after that get shut down once the stir about them is over. Look at simple plan, busted...etc. I wish Guns n' Roses were still in its original form, and Metallica still produced nice songs... :( in fact, i dun think velvet revolver will last long man...tho i love slash a lot, i dont think they have that "unique" sound anymore. Sounds just like another typical modern day rock band, but with decent solos n riffs. Sorry for straying off topic!

well, if you would define last as being able to sustain a certain level of mainstream/commercial success without fizzling out or having a low fanbase, then

Muse - growing in fanbase and popularity, though not really mainstream radio stuff, at least in singapore

Franz Ferdinand - after the radio hit Take Me Out, FF has a few other mainstream releases under their belt and a large fanbase and increasing popularity, looks like they'll be around in the pop-rock scene

Audioslave - after their second release, they look to be getting more confidant of themselves and are breaking out of the RATM/Soundgarden mould and shaping a more unique Audioslave sound

So many one(or two)-hit wonders in the industry recently, not easy to see who will actually last nowadays.

mayer!

los lonely boys!

bob marley's youngest son Damian "Jr Gong" Marley is also quite "garang".hehe.reggae+ghetto hip hop..delish!

I second Dragonforce. awesome epic metal band. Herman Li is a amazing shredder. I think he won some best young shredder award last year.ahha

+1 John Mayer. Unique playing style. good song writer

+1 Keith Urban. the only country singer i listen to. Pretty decent guitarist.

+1 Audioslave. I love their style of music. different from many.

Doode, have you checked out their live in Cuba DVD? If you have, you might not have made the previous statement. The DVD contains 3 RATM songs and 2/3 Soundgarden songs done in the Audioslave line-up.

They did 'Killing In The Name Of' for Live8. It pretty much sickened me to the core. Cornell can't and should not rap...

..

i bought the live in cuba dvd.

yup, cornell can't rap. he was also off key for a couple of moments. but it was a great performance nonetheless.

as much as i don't want them to, i think they should do away with the old soundgarden and ratm songs.

and john mayer... wow. great voice, tight band, good MOR songs, and hamsum some more. i'm getting old man.

i dont think one can actually predict how big a band will become and how long they will last... surely nobody thought that 4 teenagers in a band called metallica would last this long... anyway, my point is that EVEN simple plan may still be huge 20 years down the road, although im sure we are all praying that doesnt happen

Sadly, My Chemical Romance. :( I just can't see the appeal.

Supergroups can't last. They're not supposed to exist, in the first place...

dont really like much of the new stuff these days, am more into older stuff (dylan, nick drake, tim buckley, beatles) and the '90s alternative rock.

but one of the newer bands I like, and think has the potential to survive in the long run is Arcade Fire
