General rule of thumb - it's better to have a good amp, average guitar than a good guitar, average amp.

but u can carry ur guitar around and plug into good amps. u cant bring ur ampo around and plug into lousy guitars

That's what an amp head is for. :D

But anyway, you can carry your guitar and your amp around. It's just a choice.

I tried pushing it before, I don't like it... too grainy...

Hmm using the tube amp with totally clean headroom and letting the pedals do all the work is really an underusage of the amp.

IMO we usually set our amps to almost saturate. Any dirt pedal would push it slightly or very much over into saturation zone.

Randolf teaches the trick where, if i remember correctly, if you have to use a solid state amp, you use the amp's onboard overdrive to try and set it similarily, to almost saturate, then use pedals to colour.

Wow that was a long sentence.

Coincidentally, i use the same method that blue ark mentioned.

I sold my AD30vt sometime ago. But i got a crappy 10watt (viking) amp from my bandmate before he left.

I initially used the onboard gain till i got the DS-1 from a trade. I tried various method.

1. The DS1 as a booster,
2. The DS1 as the only source of distortion
3. The DS1 to drive the distortion smoother (switching on all the time)

Method 1 is simmillar to method 3.. but when i m bypassing it the tone sounds like shit. Method 2 is out of the question. I just dun like it the way it is, the distortion doesnt sounds nice. So i make use of my DS-1 with method 3 as the tone is better sounding.

Hmm, why does the poster wanna buy a new amp anyway? if u wanna use for home practice purposes then just use that AD 15 vt. Small enough. If u wanna use for gigs then u have to have a workalble budget, or, u are just looking to buy new gears...

well coz i wanna have beta tone n was also wondering which contribute more 2 tone guitar or amp.... And if any change of pups will help much...

well ur sense of grainy and my sense of grainy is certainly different, we have established that. and listening to ur goblin pushed i dun really find it grainy.

just bring your guitar and go try out amps. see what you think abt it. if you cant tell the difference then you don't need a new amp.

We all have differing ideas, 10 ppl here can tell you 10 different amps to buy but we're not the ones paying money.

Try for yourself. and yes a better amp will make your guitar sound better. if i give you a very good guitar and you still haev a crappy amp it will still sound crappy.

I got that. I mean, if I think Timmon's tone sounds a little grainy, i think something's up eh.

The Goblin's a great amp, just not going to be pushed by me. Not working that way. It does take drive pedals exceedingly well for one and has reverb to die for.

at the end of the day... after all is said and done....

just get a bogner uberschall!!!

i must chup jit ka and say, goblin makes clean tone sounding 3d! No joke, i like that

Thats correct but whats more shocking is...

Malcolm's Gries amp apparently makes the Goblin sound cheap. 8O

I wouldn't say the Gries makes the Goblin sound cheap but thanks to the bigger sized solid Pine cab, the Gries has a more bigger, fuller and more 3D tone compared to the Goblin.

The Goblin is still an amazing amp for the buck in my book!!! Too bad Reverend stopped building amps.

Shred how much is the goblin?

I m browsing for tube amp too.. plan was to get a part time work at the end of this year and go down to singapore to look for some good deals..

Anyway ZiiopBoii dun rush into buying stuff, the advt tone is fine for its price. Unless your are buying tube amp for a change, there is really no point trying and buying all SS at the same price range.

Unless its gonna be something like Hughes and Kettner... 8)

PEAVEYYYYYYY.... Well.. I find the peavey XXL really a good solid-state amp. Solid onboard drive. Tubey sounding also. Some of the solid state Randalls kicks major ass also. Their onboard gain sounds way better than some of the pedals out there..

i bought the XXL not because it sounds very tube-like, but it's gives me what i wanna hear: clarity + good gain...
