Hi there,

Due to limited budget (S$400 or below), i've been thinking to get a yamaha electric guitar, but i'm not so sure which yamaha series should I get if i wish to play punk-rock, alternative, and blues kind of music.
Got any advises for me?

Thanks

why not go down to Yamaha and try out the guitars there that are both comfortable and nice sounding to you and yet fit your budget? :D

YEAH. There are better and cheaper than yamaha. I got a PAC012 at 200+ after GSS discount and YMC discount.... and the pickups are not good. You will soon understand the limits after a few months you got it.

@kaiwenny: I'll definitely go down to Yamaha after CNY, coz now quite busy and I need to narrow down my choices so when go down there I wont wasting their time there for trying out too many guitar :P.

@khaos11: no choice bcoz Yamaha seems the cheapest I could get and yet value for money.

Guys, I been thinking to get Pacifica 112V or RGX420DZ, what do you guys thinks?? any other model/series recommended??

Thx

I assume teleplayer is referring to the Ibanez RG series? If so, the RG321MH is well within ur budget, u can go to Swee Lee or Standard Value to try out. Other brands u can try are Cort, Washburn, Smash, Timbre.

Do nt jus stick to only browsing n testing Yamaha guitars cuz u may regret not lookin at other choices.

Do go down to Bras Basah Complex or Peninsula Plaza. Im sure there wil b nice guitars ther within ur budget n liking as well.

hmm... try a ltd ec-50.... try the one with a matt finish.... was playing around with it the other weekend..... not a bad guitar for its price range.... the neck has a nice solid feel..... well, head down to bras basah or peninsular..... got alot more BETTER and cheaper guitars there.... U WON"T regret...

at the end of the day.... go for FEEL.... the guitar CALLS u... not u call the guitar....its like a GIRLFRIEND... not every gal is meant for u... u go out with her on a first date... and u realise ur wasting time and effort on her.... others need a lil persuading... and finally u find someone whu u truely love and wanna share everything with... some times the guitar u REALLY want... is beyond ur reach, cuz of some of ur own imperfections... well, not everyone is drop dead gorgeous to attract every woman rite?... thou u could do SOMETHING about it. hahaha think about it dude....

if ur serious into buying a guitar.... just wait for it to call u... another gd way is to research online... the internet so vast.... sure got alot of reviews here and there...

wish u all the best in ur conquest dude and may u find the one u love

Hi GoGreen,

I think you are spot on when you choose yamaha Guitars because of value for money. If you're keen on versatility Floyd Rose and all, the RGX420 is a great choice. Stable Floyd, neat workmanship. I used to own the RGX420S, it has a cool switch that allows you to go from mellow riffs to screaming solos at a flick. Alder body. - I traded it away though... for another yamaha guitar

If you're not into Floyd, then the options are wider.

Good Luck!

no la.... I referring to the yamaha RG thing.... I also narrow my choice to yamaha only... bcos I thot they are like damn good... -_- sure regret de lo.

Hahaha..dude nice saying from you, totally agree with you about the 'girlfriend' thing :D. Btw the ltd EC50 is ESP brand rite?

@obzervr: yea man, I spotted yamaha because of its value for money factor. Btw, may I know if you had got any dislikes/problems from RGX420?

@Kyuzo: thx bro for your advice, will try to check out Bras Basah Complex or Peninsula Plaza first before headed to yamaha center :)

@teleplayer: yeah man, seems like yamaha RGX series really suit to me, will hands-on on it to confirm the 'feel'.

Anyway guys, thx for your sweet advices, really appreciates it. Pls post a reply if any of you guys have spotted nice sounded guitar model recently (don't mind even if above my budget as long as it not over 600 sgd).

no matter what dun get a pacifica. they make shitty copies of strats and the pickups are so muddy and u cant hear a shit out of it. at least, the one with the SD JB on it is better.

With $400, u could get a B.C. Rich Mockingbird from Davis which will leave you with $5.
:p

And, skip Yamaha electrics. It won't be worth regretting over.

Strange... I've come across a lot of good reviews of the Yamaha Pacifica 112... I'd personally recommend the Ibanez GSA60, it's very versatile yet doesn't follow any popular design, as in its quite an original design. Some have had problems with theirs but if you find a good piece, it's gonna serve you well. Mine's excellent, better than some mid-ends I've tried.

I won't recommend the GRG270 though, I don't think you'll need a double-locking tremolo, based on what you play. Those things are nightmares, especially low-end ones. The GRG121 might suffice. For what you play, perhaps a fixed-bridge would be better. But personally I find the RGs more metal-oriented.

Forgot to add, for the 2009 Ibanez GSA60s, they might cost a little more than $400 because they now use mahogany bodies. Earlier versions, mine included, used basswood. But don't bother about wood types for now, if the guitar suits you, it suits you.

there's a pacifica which is made if like brown wood, with white pickguard I think that's a cool one to get, then when u have more money then change the pickup and bridge and machine heads. Then it will be fine.

Sorry guys for the late reply and thanks for the advices; really appreciate it :D
Anyway, I've decided to go to the bras basah complex on this weekend to check out some guitars that are mentioned by some softie here..
