bass pots and guitar pots the same right?

Yup, to my knowledge they are. You can pots for both guitar and bass. However, there are 250k pots (which generally give a darker, bassier sound) and 500k pots (which give a brighter sound). Some pickup manufacturers (like DiMarzio) recommend 500k pots for high output pickups, but I think its up to your preference, and what kind of song you're going for.

One way to compare sound (all other factors being equal) is by comparing Fender standard basses and Squier standard basses. The Fender uses 250k pots while the Squier uses 500k pots.

Anyway, back to your question... You can easily find 250k and 500k pots in Peninsula and Bras Basah I think. So.. you might want to go back and just ask for pots. Someone correct me if pots really aren't available in these places, as I haven't tried searching for pots before.
