what's the diff between the trb and bb of yamaha

the TRB series are 35" versions and a little higher end compared to the BB. BB series are like jazz bass and P bass emulations while the TRB are in the league of their own. Personally .. i'd get the TRB. =) .. but i love the BBs too .. seriously .. yamaha basses are nice ..

hmm maybe i'll check out one of those...
but the thing is...
i dont really like the name... YAMAHA
haha its like a brand which everyone gets.
a bit like op or billabong.
anyone feel the same as me?
or issit just me. :?

haha well... then u cud get a TRABEn... i think u'll be the first in singapore to have one? or at least the few... =)

most people dont like yamaha cuz their stuff comes in solid colour finishes or natural, and the tone is just specific to your taste... personally i prefer ibanez to yamaha.

yeah that why i using roadgear... prefer ibanez to yamaha...
WAH i wanna get a stingray5...
but out of my range unless i getta second hand. which is a bit not seh... haii... dillema

RD 500?
ibanez also has a comfy neck!

so how's the decision making... i'm facing a crisis of my own... i play 5 but there aren't any 5s of my choice in my budget... =(

I think the main thing to consider for a 5-string bass is the low B .. ensure that when you play the low B string isn't muddy in the lower regions especially. It's natural for the low B to get a little "woofy" or muddy past the 12th fret due to the nature of the string ...

Another consideration is the string spacing. I'm using a warmoth jazz bass now with a spacing of 16mm or 17mm if i'm not wrong ... slapping especially is affected ...

if you want to employ advanced techniques like double-slap and pop you've gotta figure out which space will work for you. technically. a larger string spacing of 18mm to 19mm will work best for slap players ... but if you are willing to sit down and practice on your technique ... small string spacing shouldn't be a problem too ..

decision is tough sia... ppl tell me: if you wanna get five, why not try six. one extra string, more versatility for the same price. =.=... btw how much would it cost if i went to bkk to buy a stingray5. luther has held my bass back for 3 days extra. i'm bored. 10 days no bass and counting. T.T

There's quite a bit of difference in a 5 and a 6 string bass, first off, it you're a slapper, the 6 is gonna be a wee bit of a nightmare, nothing that technique can't overcome, but its gonna be tough. Which is why alot of slappers in the world use 4 strings and some 5 strings, but hardly ever 6 strings.

For me, the 6th string will kill my already overworked brain. 5 strings is hard enough to remember everything, add one more string and its GG for me.

aye agreed, i downgraded after 1 year of playing 6... it's not very much needed in the first place, but heck if u're up for the challenge AND the fun, why not? :D

should i wait for EOY swee lee sale and get a MIA J, or wait for next availability of the lakland skyline 5502... mmmmmmm.........................

hey chanced upon this thread, im in the market for a similar bass, abt e same price range too (1.5-2K).

someone mentioned a sonus 5 for sale? wld consider if its still floating around.

im more interested in the BB than the TRB, (yeah unfortunately the finishes arent as attractive, but solid instruments nonetheless), can anyone give me a lowdown on the different models of BBs sold by yamaha? 415, 615, 1500, 2000, 5000 etc.

hahaha ... i know how that feels, i was looking to play 6 strings instead but i realised after testing out some that they feel foreign to me ... it's because of the high C that makes everything NOT work ...

i decided to stick to a 5-stringer though ... i can switch effortless between a 4 and 5er but a 6er is a tough one for me ...

Yeah, i can switch between 4 and 5's quite easily too, but more of a 5 man at the moment, 6's are just too much work. :P
