 sorry... noobish... but won't long fingers be an asset

its an advantage bro,but doesnt mean that normal/short fingers cant play 5 or 6 stringers...you can play one la,when you practice, the impossible become possible

maybe get a used john myung signature. I own one it's got nice tone despite it being a rock bass. It's slap tone is also one of the best around. one bad point is that the finger spacing is very very small. so u gotta get used to that. otherwise, u play with the EQ and u can get quite a lot of different sounds. It's got 2 truss rods and an ebony fretboard. It should not warp easily. hope that helps

i would also agree with him...

for some reason , whenever i want to get a 5 string - my kiasu singaporean mind will tell me "eh, brudda, might as well get a 6 string leh"... Oh yeah i got a chance to try that 6 string beast and i must say, the playability is teh shit. 10/10. excellent. plus it's alot lighter than other 6stringers and the neck is surprisingly easy to play around. like the tone.

anyways, anyone here own a 5 string fender jazz?

I think long fingers/big hands are an asset for bassists, especially if he/she plays 6 stringers and above. More so for double bass. Depends on the basses also; if u hav small hands like mine, the basses like the Yamaha Patitucci 6 would be a struggle to handle.

^i think they're assets for guitarists too. hmmm actually all musicians could do better with long fingers eh?

hmmm........ lomg and sturdy fingers are good for allll thingssss.....

I am not exactly sure of some prices, but these should be ard 1k and below 2.5k:

Ibanez BTB, Ibanez RD, Musicman SUB, Yamaha TRB5II, Yamaha BB615 (check out the 415 also;passive version). These are some of the usual suspects that are still on retail. You could also be looking at the used market for a wider palette of choice, and probably more bang for the buck as well.

That is what I thougth also; until a former teacher who is African American told me that he was 'forced' to pick up double bass instead of guitar because his fingers were too big for the guitar neck! The size of his fingertips were too big for him to play comfortably.

oh yea anyone got any idea if the fieldy signature is good?

the K5 signature is designed according to the artists tone preferences .. Korn plays alot of heavy rock stuff so your tone will gear towards that .. if you want Ibanez's quality .. i'd recommend the SR prestige series ..
