i dont think playing the guitar attracts alot of girls ??..have never tried it though *HEY NICE TO MEET YOU,I PLAY THE GUITAR :)* XD

I play the guitar to:-
- Express the emotions in my heart.
- Compliment the people and things that matter most to me.
- Help others become more aware of God and the beauty and goodness He has made available to us in this world.

My true story:-

15 years ago, a young girl heard me sing and play the guitar. She got carried away... so she became my girlfriend, then my wife, then gave me 2 loveable little boys, now a little girl is on the way...

now she's so busy with the kids she has no time and mood to listen to me play and sing anymore. :p

Nice! Haha, i played for a girl once, metalicca - unforgiven with backing tracks on my pc and here i go jeng jeng jeng jeng... She tripped and fell on me, thus broke her neck in the process.

She was my first love/guitar, kapok acoustic... sigh....

I actually think that those people who play guitar for girls, are not going to be as good as the people who play purely to become technical masters or out of love for music. Intrinsic motivation is always MUCH stronger than extrinsic motivation.

+1. Also, once they get married, they'd very likely be only playing for one person, or perhaps a few more, so there weren't be much inspiration to improve.

He's right!

From what I have observed so far, some folks who play guitars to impress the opposite sex usually excel in a few songs. But the foundation is not strong. Once u give them a different song with chords, the chops suddenly become clumsy liao...

.

My wife has been complaining so noisy after I brought it...Haha
She doesn't likes music...why play the same songs? Same strumming and etc???

Hmm.

Why I play guitar? Many reasons actually... Because:

1. I know that I've got plenty of good riffs/melodies/songs that are still waiting inside of me and playing guitar is really the easiest for of expressing myself. That is, apart from singing.

2. I always try to get inspired, or at least I am constantly seeking inspiration, and I know that I am not so lazy so as to just sit around and "wait for things to happen".

3. I always challenge myself to be unique, and to have my own style be it fusing different rock genres or simply just playing the blues, or country, folk, pop etc.

4. So that I can pass my retirement doing SOMETHING other than mucking around and being grouchy. :P

1. its a form of expression.

2. i really love music as itself and playing, performing it to people.

3. to vent my anger with chugga chugga riffs.

to be the best guitarist on earth =DD

and it really helps to pass time because i spent hours on it and those are the happiest moments of my life.

Partly, because of friend's influences also. heh.

what do i play guitar for? i play it because i have this passion to play... well i still remember seeing my friends playing with a guitar...
But after learning a chord or two on my friends les paul,i decided.
Me and guitar dont get along until i really had nothing to do at home other then listenign to rock music since the age of 7 i think..
After hearing classics from ozzy osbourne, theres when i picked up my first guitar at the age of 11 learning chords, it wasnt easy for me back then i learn a few chords like gmajor,a,c,e,eminor, and stuffs really didnt cut out for me,didnt had any teacher or the money..
so i just played around and guess what i learn how to do harmonics in a few months i think 3 months..
Theres where things started up smoothly,
and i heard of this forum soft when i was 12 started mixing around with ppl here, learn alot things.. now shredding like yngwie malmsteen lol! kidding! well a few things i would say whether ur friends let u down saying ur shit or even if u have no teacher to teach u and u suck well continue playing that guitar u will realise what potential u hold...

play guitar cuz i love music..
wanna get good..
wanna perform..
wanna keep busy..
wanna show off to frenz..
basically thats it..

Decided to play guitar 15 years ago because I realised I cannot bring my piano with me everywhere I go. And keyboards need power supply. So acoustic guitar is the way to go! So my first reason was portability. But of course, the more important reason because I enjoy playing it!

Im seriously thinking of quiting guitar to learn to play xylephones .. your tots???
