what do u play guitar for?

Im seriously thinking of quiting guitar to learn to play xylephones .. your tots???

After all these years? How about taking up xylephone as a secondary instrument? Be a multi-instrumentalist :) But really, two instruments is enough. I used to play guitar, bass and drums, eventually I dropped drumming.

No ..I wanna mod a xylophone with built in DiMarzio humbuckers, piezo accoustic pick ups then run it thru a pedal board...the xylophone will be strapped on to me so that I can move around the stage for showmanship ...

Wanna also do the xylophone playing "behind my neck, behind my back and with my teeth" act ...

what do u all think of my idea?

Mainly for song writing purposes, used to write songs for my ex band. But still prefer to play drums. So while writing a guitar riff or melody will think of how the drums should react to the riff. Right now I do my own stuff which I wrote and lazy to record and as a human jukebox for my gf *sigh*

Started because of Dragonforce (dont laugh please. i dint realise how bad they were live when i first knew power metal)

Reasons: To create music and girls!

Started because I was really bored during one school holiday, so I borrowed my friend's guitar to try out.

Reasons: Creating music is fun, and so is playing guitar.

I play it for entertainment! fun! hobby! get better in terms of skill wise! lead the band to glory! hahaha. seriously, when things fucked me up, i strum my guitar to melodical tunes and that really cools the shit out of me.:D
thats the advantage.

Yeah, my guitar is a medium where i express my feelings, & it gives me contentment & peace,& also a good social skill, whenever I join a gathering & all are too shy to talk & happens that a guitar is arround, I pick up the guitar & start to play,in a while we are all friends. Yeah most chicks love guys who can play, but that's just a small part of it really :D.

In the future, im having more guitars & ill make sure my passion for music is passed onto my kids.

lol, another old thread dug up.

but anyway here's my story

i remembered when i was in P4 and there was this new cca introduced to my school, so i dunno what gotten into me but i juz riased my hand when the teacher announced it without even knowing what cca it was. the cca turned out to be the guitar ensemble.

having join it, i discovered interest in music, that which can't be found when i'm playing the piano ( i think it was due to me having to take exams which resulted in pressure and so on)
so after 6 years of playing, and participated in the SYF 4 times, i would say that i play the guitar with the intention of self actualization.

ok i've no idea how that story links to my point about self actualization, but i think smart pple out there can figure it out. lol.

For me, it was definitely to pick up chicks... AT FIRST. But as time passed by, i got more passionate about music and right now i'm playing the guitar out of pure desire. One day i hope to be able to write kick- ass songs that i enjoy and hopefully other people can to! And btw, guitar has definitely got me a number of chicks... =)

i play guitar because i got bloody jealous that my grandpa bought my cousin an acoustic for his birthday (and my bday and his is like 3 days apart?) haha.

so i put on new strings on my father's old orient... and next thing you know... SMOKE ON THE WATER!

I started to learn guitar when I was 12. I was in a Brass Band in school playing the trumpet and I occassionally sing during school assembly. I need accompaniment and during that time where got karaoke and minus one cassettes are just too expensive.

During secondary school I play because I want be a rock and roll rebel. Joined the army played in Navy combo band. And moonlighting at some clubs at Sembawang to earn extra money. You know army time salary only $120 like that lah during my time. After army played full-time mainly for money....within a year I got bored. Hehehehe!! Quit, sold all equipment and go for further studies. Was abroad....but one day bought a guitar and effect...and start playing every night for some income for almost 4 years. Hehehehe!! Lucky passed the examination if not chalat.

So, here I am looking down the road from where it all started. Now, still a guitarist whose never got over with the music of 70's and 80's. But, when I grow older I wanna be a luthier for retirement. Hehehehe!!

HAHA. i laughed at that. hmm. why not try EMGs? since the xylophone is so clear and sharp, might as well use EMGs to dampen the sound..

Picked up because interested in learning and seeing so many cool and pro guitarists out there. and for now, waiting for my a7x songbook to come so can learn dear god and sing and play during band graduation for the girl i like..

I learn to play the guitar, because I like it alot, and also to play for church and with my older brother. When I was very young I love seeing people play guitar,I think they look really cool! Then 2 years back,my brother started playing the guitar,he looks really good with the guitar and he could play so I would always think of what it would be if I was holding the guitar. On the last month of last year,a man called uncle kek in my church ask me to learn a instrument to play, and he also said that guitar was very good as not many people in my church wanted to play.So of course I agree and told my mum straight and she allowed and also my brother was willing to teach me.I have no idea why I like guitar so much and also around that time there was like some one tellin me to play with the guitar. It really help to get me closer with my brother, and of course my family also.I am now learning to play and sing, and would be up on stage on at the end of this year as they tell me that I was ready to go on stage, which I think is a really good christmas present to me,everyone and most of all God!

Well mainly started guitar due to my late grandfather and uncle who was his student. Was in a band with my cousins some years ago.Must say how i do sometimes miss that period of time when we just got our band together.Sadly due to disagreements,we do not play together anymore and some have lost the interest altogether. These days i play mostly for the love of the music, mainly acoustic rock/hardrock...real exciting isnt it to hear a new tune and learn how to play it??Besides this,i also play once a week with my uncle at his place during off days to catch up on some theory and also chat about the music scene.

Wow, I learnt the guitar for fun but Brandon Gan(who was my guitar teacher then) was just damn cool with his guitar and he inspired me to go further! Now, it's rock n' roll and metal, baby.

i do agree playing guitar does attract girls..to a certain extend.
but thats not really the main criterias though..?

i heard ppl playing classical/acoustic guitar in void decks when i was young..ard 10yrs old..it looked so cool, and sounded so nice. so i told myself i wanna learn guitar when i grow up. (i used to thought playing guitar are for adults, which is why i didnt learn at that time) LOL
