what do u play guitar for?

I learnt playing guitar to get girls... or at least that's what got me started... And it did work for a while when I played in my friend's pub in the past.

But now, I play simply for the love of it. The buzz of standing in front of the 100W amp and the frequencies sending vibrations up my underwear...

i play guitar coz initially coz it was cool to me. but then i went wow. shiok..

10 years time i see myself serenading to my wife in front the fireplace...then she goes crying, kisses me..and...and...err....u know...

i play guitar cos i love the kick i get out from playing it

nothing beats hearing your instrument roaring from some huge amp and playing with your bandmates

To be better than yngwie, I don't have 8 hours a day to practice, so I just practice whenever I can, weekends i can practice up to 8 hours. Yup, I play because I simply love the music that I play and want to be the best that ever made that sorta thing. To those who know me, I have been playing for 1 year and 3 months, stop asking questions.

I was into heavy metal since my early teens, always imagine myself with an RG playing and headbanging at some big concert. Well, the gift to play a musical instrument, I feel, is a gift from God. And I can get a kick from blessing others with my music, so why not? I picked up the acoustic guitar to play Christian songs at first, then after 5 years, I started on the drums. Then I bought my first electric.

I guess if I never bought a Testament CD and got into heavy metal, I would never have picked up the instrument. So yeah, I play guitar to bless others with this gift I've been given.

I play cuz i tink it's really cool to play a guitar especially an electric guitar.
Can impress or charm ppl tats really cool. Charmed my ex.. Even my teacher. LOL!!

i play guitar for fun. relax.

what really push me to play guitar is when i hear a song i like and i wanna play the song real bad..
best is when i get to convince my bandmates to play that song as well. :)

I'll wail my axe till my very last breathe. It reminds me that i should never take sh*t from anybody. Its's a way to fend off my violent emotions. It makes me feel whole and then everything in life will fall into place. Thrash and Destroy!

thx guys. actually i started this thread cuz i was getting frustrated with my slow improvement.. when i hear slash i wish i could phrase like that. but somehow when i play guitar i cant seem to do it.

another reason is my crappy hearing. some time back i decided that it would be a lot better if i stop relying on tabs and start using my ears. but somehow i just cant seem to get it right. i cant even tell if something i've figured out with my ears is the actual thing played in songs. n reading about how the pros used to 'teach themselves by ear' is not helping at all..

i was comparing the joy i feel when i play guitar and when i'm riding my bike. i've only started biking in June 07. when i started it seemed as if i was beyond hope, the fear of falling and all. my uncle who taught me even said that i looked so stiff that it looked like it was a torture for me.. but even so, once my little (50cc, lol) scooter was fixed and i began riding around my block i felt really good. of course, i cant lean like v. rossi (my bike doesnt allow that much leaning anyway) but i'm getting the pleasure of indulging in a 'hobby'. n the time i've spent biking is wayyyy less than that i've spent on guitar-playing. and i dont recall the number of times when i can smile and say to myself, "good job, lotsa improvement!" or "hey, nice lick!" being that many..

i apologise for ranting so much on motorbikes, but i hope it helps illustrate my point..

If you wanna get there, you're gonna have to practice A DAMN LOT, or you really aren't gonna get anywhere. Studying music theory helps alot too.

I play guitar so as to have food on my table. I pick up guitar at the age of 15 as I'm sick and tired carrying leftover food on the table. People say, being a musician I can't go far and it's not a first priority in life. That's quite true but I did survive well as I saved my way till this age now. I don't spend on a place I work unlike some musicians did. But it's individual for this case. The budget was so good in the earlier days but now it's like just passing my time till my health retire.

The fact is I've got 2 kids whose a graduate and a few grandsons in the polytechnics. My first guitar is Hofner and it was a classic. Too bad it got broken down in some event where people start climbing up the stage and breaking everything. That's the shame to people who just don't care about others.

hahaha...good question! for me i guess it is another anger releasing out-let other than sweat it out with my sports or bleed it out with my fists( fists? joking la of coz).

hi all,

i'm new to this forum, tot maybe can start of with this topic. lol
many years back i'm impressed easily by MANY THINGS.... not just
musical instruments LOL. anyway i also dunno y i was so inspired by
a song on tv that i MUST learn. but during then i was a sch student...
and lessons etc was not funded by my parents. in fact i think my
first guitar was bought through a loan from my friend. and you might have
guess correctly, after some time i stop playing due to slow progress and
almost no coaching. glad that i'm back to guitar again now. cheers!

If you do that you can anticipate roughly where the notes are fretted rather than straining your ears and trying to figure out what the hell you are hearing...

Good luck bin4christ

how does theory help that? i know scales n such so i somewhat know where the other notes are after finding one, but if i cant even find the first note there's not much use is there? n sometimes i get it totally wrong. the first time i tried eric clapton's wonderful tonight i thought it was in natural min...
