Well Done ChannelnewsAsia!!

Don't know lah.

Those Filipino service staff, hospital workers - they seem to be smiling genuinely all the time. Rarely show you a black face as though you owe them money.

:D

Which Singaporean wouldn't show a black face when they know their jobs are being scooped up by foreigners? Let's all go to THEIR countries and take their jobs.. See how their government reacts.. I don't think they'd put their citizens in a ring and see how they compete for the job right?

This is relevant not only to the working sector, but education as well.. I've met too many people who are studying here, and have no intention of remaining once they've obtain their certs (no contribution to our nation).. Now, thats a lot more spots less in schools right? Lesser opportunities to study, of course lesser opportunities to find a job..

I've met a person, whose wife was GUARANTEED a place in NUS, PROVIDED that she PASSED her english, while our students are working their asses off for years to obtain that spot she's occupying? Multiply this by several several cases, and you got yourself a problem..

If they argue that foreigners are better at their jobs, being more creative and all, blame the education system.. Ever since an emphasis on school ranking is placed, schools compete to obtain top spots, killing the spirit of learning in the name of mugging.. If Einstein was born in Singapore, hell, we wouldn't have to study physics anymore.. The education system would just supress his creativity.. Students have no past, no present, only a future, which, in such a robotic society, isn't hardly a "future" to aim for..

Mortichro, if we dont have poly or uni, we will NOT even have a fighting chance.

shinobi, our education is not substandard. Just that we are competing with those with higher education and experience. It is a known fact that there are doctors from Philipines who are working as medical helpers in US, UK, UAE and even Singapore.

Godspeed64, Singaporeans are going all over the globe. ALOT of Singaporean did their university overseas. I hope they are given the best treatment and respect from those countries.

ALOT of Singaporean did their university overseas.

Cause local uni's are too hard to enter? But nevertheless, it is wrong to alter information such as that.. You're deceiving not only one country, but nations by placing it on the net..

by all means go overseas. if i had the chance, i definitely would study overseas to gain a different life experience outside singapore. but make sure u come back yeah.

On the other hand, we have Indian, Filippino and even Taiwanese trained and educated colleagues who take their jobs more seriously than some of my fellow citizens do.

I think that some policies here are kok but given the current crop of "citizens" I am not sure what else we can do.

agree with you, migrant workers are always a hungrier bunch. but are they here to seek a new life or seek a new fortune? even our forefathers went overseas and came to Southeast Asia for work, we're the ones who didn't go back to Amoy, Canton, Tamil Nadu etc... but in times of war, will they get called up for recall manning?

compared to your neighbouring countries.... singapore is a damn good place to stay. bro rottenramone bro.... this year NDP wanna go together? hur hur hur~

Godspeed64, what information did they altered? Just the title right? I thought the article content is intact?

Anyone have the originals of both the articles?

Simply put the govt has in mind the increase of the population and a method of maintaining relevance in china and india, through these migrants. It's purely a numbers game, balancing people who stay and those who will leave, and you can bet, being the pragmatic sort, the collateral damage is fine with them for those who are already here.

Foreign workers who come over to work, some of them are doing it for a lot less than what locals would take. A dollar here means a lot more to them back home. And as business people, who wouldn't want to take advantage of this sort of labour, who wouldn't want to increase their profits.

As a result the country survives, but the people might not. Be prepared for a cultural shift.
