We are so NOT in tune. Help needed. If it can be helped...

Tune up your guitar. Tune it well.

Now, play some chords, then do this:

E octave @ 7th fret.
Which means you fret 2 notes - 5th string @ 7th fret and 3rd string @ 9th fret.

Tell me that you are in tune...

I am out of tune there. Its friggin irritating.

Note, octaves lower down, e.g. 2nd fret, are in tune.

Then if I tune to make that 7th fret E octave in tune, my open E chord is out of tune.

Can you guys try it? Its driving me nuts. Its very difficult playing that octave and its like I'm starting to avoid playign that altogether because its just out of tune!

Uhm.... some quick oneliners that may or may not help.

Reintonation for your current playing style
Talk to Malcolm about this, I'm sure he'll have a remedy or a workaround for this age old problem.

Edder, yeah, i've been pondering about it...

Its only just been bugging me. I'm at work now, but I thought, ah, just post, then can get 8k posts.

Anyway, I'm not sure about reintonation. And i just got my USACG guitar neck so... ARGH. Maybe I'll try that zero fret thingy...

zero fret won't help. the guitar can never be in tuned at all position.

its always a compromise.

Best is for you guys to go and try.

Use heavy distortion, or better, fuzz. You can hear the ring modulation of having 2 close/similiar notes.

Hopefully, its just my guitars... my Ibanez and my sister's Yamaha.

Edder, I know the guitar can never be in tune. I think I needs keyboards liao.

Sub, the fretwaves system would be really cool actually. But then I'll have to tune the B & G strings all the time - small price to pay though.

then suddenly imperfection irritates

just work around it bro .... heard of bend'in like beckem !!

I actually like that quirk ... :D

Goose, yeah... coz I was recording and you know, how recording can show off your imperfections - i'm not so good at making my imperfections shine yet lah - so...

My workaround was to retune when playing octaves, then retune when doing leads/chord work.

Worse. When re-tuning for octaves, i had to match the backing track - midi - which is in tune.

FGL, its 25.5" and intonated by a Strobe tuner.

I'm just asking for info/statitical/knowledge sake... I understand the guitar is inherently out of tune - some would scoff at that - and just looking at possible ways to minimise the out of tune-ness.

Already had a nice kind SOFTie msn me about some vids that had some tuning method... cool.

post here buddy :D

Shred i dig your jomo ...but can't you just avoid that combo ?!!

I have that problem with 23fretter not with the 21 tho ...weird !!

pppssstt down tune

Nice kind SOFTie is finding said vids. :D

Avoid what combo dude? The 25.5" scale? My guitar 22 frets leh... and the no. of frets doesn't affect intonation leh the way scale length would.

NOOOOO...

i once had a similar sticky problem but it was on a classical guitar...turned out to be that the string gauge he used (for the G) was NOT the correct gauge and upon getting a proper "G" string for him, the tuning problems ceased.

Seems like a long shot from yr strobe tuned / intonated guitar ..but?

also try recheck intonation aagain especially 12 fret harmonic and Pressed notes to ascertain 100% intonation...

if not..then donno leh....
