Wah with custom PCB!
Thought I'll just share this with you guys.... heres a backstory: Over the course of my few years of geetar playing, wah pedals are one of the effects that have come and gone for me on countless occasions...I guess you could say its a personal thing, when it comes to wah pedals, that my tastes change the most often and this leads me to seek the most effective wah voicing that curtails my needs and my persona as a player. These are the wahs I've owned and sold so far:
Dunlop Crybaby 95Q
Dunlop Crybaby 535Q
Dunlop Dimebag Crybaby From Hell
Vox V847a
RMC Wizard Wah
Among all these I've owned and tried (like Budda, Morley and a few others) my personal favourite was the RMC Wizard Wah. It was thick and throaty and very vocal like, and it really cuts through for high gain. I found the top end too smooth for funk however. For that funky "wakka wakka" sound which i need for my pop band, the stock vox v847 fulfills this to a T. The RMC wizard just dint have the the growl which made the vox perfect for clean funk playing. The other wahs I had were mostly adjustable but I objected to the voicing , after all the crybaby has that nasal vomit-ty tone, perhaps suited if you like the Kirk Hammet kind of trebly wah wanking but its not my cup of tea. I couldnt get along with the stock Crybaby voicing....so the added controls are basically useless, cos the basic tone to me already sounded bad.
So i decided on getting the Vox V847A wah again and mod it with controllable parameters so that i could have a versatile wah that would work well for dirt and cleans. Got it really cheap, at the city music sale at 80 buckaroos. However, to my dismay i realised that the damn circuit board was SMD!
So how? well decided to ask Goose for his help...he says he cant mod SMD, so i ask him, what if you do something else altogether....like swap out the guts....brought the wah over to his place and he let me try a modified korg volume pedal on his pedalboard which he gutted for a wah pedal...one of his creations. He told me he'd try to give me a wah that could be tweaked, and it would fall somewhere between the RMC and Vox character. He would basically create a custom pcb to kick out that shameful son of an SMD board in my Vox wah.
I collected the wah from him last saturday, and i must say that im totally satisfied with his creation. Most wahs i've ever had and tried only work for cleans or dirt. It was either one or the other. Never have i ever been satisfied with a wah that fulfills both roles before. The wah's range, coupled with the 5 way position switch for controlling the sweep and a gain/frequency knob gives it a lot of possibilities for different sounds. I can go from a low gutteral "wooooh" to a thin "wakka wakka sound" to a vocal cutting wah lead tone like those Morley/RMC wahs. The always on buffer has also been removed, and the wah is now true bypassed.

According to Goose, I'm his first customer to request a custom wah pcb from him. So that makes it the first Goosoniqueworx wah! him It appears to be a Vox on the outside, but on the inside........... its a Weeping Goose!
