city music and SV for me!
very good cust svc which i think a lot of music/guitar shops in singapore should learn from.

worst from the list is blackwood.
2 bad experiences that invloves trust and honesty. Will never buy from them again.

Very difficult choice. I'd vote for three if I could. Ranking, Standard Value, Maestro and City Music. Service and repairs-wise, Standard Value is my favourite but my main gripe is that SV does not have much acoustic guitar gear, mostly electric.

City Music. Really good service (after sales) as well as customer service. Been pleasantly surprised with their warmth with each visit.

And, How could we forget Sinamex!

haha.

teleplayer, you'd need justification on that statement that Sweelee is not honest.

Just FYI, they're a registered business and have been dealing with the big brands for years that have passed and still will be for years to come. If they are not honest, how would they have made it this far?

I think its time you learn the definition of honest....

honest - free from fraud or deception.

Has sweelee been dishonest? Have they told you to pay $5000 for an Epiphone that they say is a Gibson?

Sweelee can price their items as high as they want. But if they do that, no one will buy from them. Ultimately, you pay what you're willing to pay for it. So if you're willing to fork out $2500 for a guitar that you later find elsewhere at $2200, Sweelee still has not cheated you of your money. Unless they have a price-matching policy and then in the unlikely event that they do not honour that policy, then they are being dishonest.

Something to ponder over...

I do agree. But there is no reason for them to set their price like crazy then give discount to people and make people think that, wah.. swee lee so good.. give discount.. well, isit this dishonest?

i agree with junhao. but i think is their sales tatic.
but still kinda sucks though.

oh i and vote for SV,Mike very friendly and helpful.

I dont see how is that being dishonest. No offence! Peace. ^_^v

the old ah ma is okay. the woman are quite okay. the malay guy or indonesia guy also quite okay. there's this guy who i suppose is the boss. He is the one who is not honest.

But sweelee is okay. I think they are quite honest... except for their pricing..

I know the guy u are refering to its not james right? its the other one he has cunning eyes haha if u ask him about something he like answer u like u have no money to buy that kindof thing then u say "i'll buy this" then he will start smiling to u like wtf!

If this thread turn into another "complain" thread, I would have no choice but to close it.

Please, exercise some constrain and stay to the objective of the thread.

IMO this thread is rather pointless.

If Shop A sells something i need i would go to shop A.

If Shop B sells the item i desire at a cheaper price than Shop A i would obviously go to Shop B.

There is no preference for shop based on price of items for me.

What ultimately determines ' best ' shop? Service? Variety of items? Price?

No shop can be judged as such based on a poll. Every shop has their own outstandingness, if not they wouldnt be around today.

Thus -nil- vote.

Agree with jms and superpotato_30. If you ask me, Swee Lee is not being dishonest because they're selling you their stuff at the price they have set, over-priced or not. They're not deceiving you. I actually like Swee Lee's Bras Basah outlet because I've never had bad experiences there before. And I go there a lot, and always try a lot of guitars each time.:mrgreen:

It's their sales tactic. There's no law saying that they cannot sell a particular item at the price higher than normal market value, unless it has been fixed by the manufacturer or goods provider.

Besides, every shop employs that tactic. Simlim is a good example. Having worked there, yes, I realise that the prices that my boss set was higher. But he always told us how much of a discount we could give in order to bring in customers. Besides, if we give you a discount, you're earning, not us =\

Why is TyMusic the best?

The following reasons: (no comparing :D):

1. I'm a chinese. My mother tongue is chinese language. And the guys in TYMC are fluent in both english and chinese. So when we communicate, it is easier and I will prefer talking to them.

2. Their before-during-after service. When you enquire about something, they will be as patient as possible. I'm still a student and I only wear bermudas and a t-shirt out (and slippers). They are still very patient. and when i send my guitars for repair, they will sms me to update me... haha. AND they reply sms very fast.. okay, it's not like immediately, maybe 5-10minutes, they will reply you. and their after service( i don't know if this is call after service :P), they will give discounts lah! if you go to their shop frequent enough for them to remember you, they will give you discounts... haha. that's what i like.

In My Humble Opinion.

(Please don't compare my opinions.. or else this will upset mr soft.. lol.)

Teleplayer: thought all shops are chinese shops? they should be able to speak in chinese. and a student doesnt mean u dress sloppily. student not student no matter, its sloppy or presentable or casual. and well, discounts for regulars seems normal to me.

haha. ya, all shops are chinese shops, but not all speaks in chinese right? haha. let's not talk about other shops that will look down on students.. haha. and some shops do not give discounts to regulars... yeah.

^ No not really. Once they KNOW that they can't feed you bull, then it's decent for getting what you want and getting the hell out of there. The service is ultimately sub-standard and misinformed, and their prices are nothing to get excited about.

Staying on-topic, I think TyMusic and City Music have excellent service and pricing, not to mention TyMusic carries Catalinbread (kudos).
