In that case, you have to strike a balance between financially sound decision and your passion. Live within your means...

But out of curiosity, you said it wasn't out of a career wish, you also said "having an acoustic guitar is enough", nor are you pissed with your dad.

So what is it? You want a collection of guitars? You're trying to point out something?

*scratch head*

I'm lost ... LOL!

DD

ok all the good advise are out.... can I start dedicating songs to bin4christ???????

go ahead dude. n i'm juz venting here, NOT looking for sympathy (wrt ur previous post). i've nth to be sympathetic anyweis.i dont have a problem with my dad lah.

RoRK: thx for that post of urs. the last few stanzas were meaningful. to me, at least.

n once again, to clear any misunderstandings if any, the problem i have is not with my dad. i apologise if i've not been clear about what i'm trying to say. my essay-writing is shaky, sometimes gd sometimes bad, n it seems to be going downhill recently. it's about the general crap that i dont understand, that why people can understand why some spend $ on stuff they dont exactly need but rant at guitarists when they spend big $ on gear.

god of SOFT, if u want this thread to go to locksville, be my guest, since my issue has somewhat been solved. sent an apology sms to my dad liao.

Maybe when your dad see your your result after the O levels is released, he might change his mind. What's more, he already said depending on your result, so it's only a fair deal if he only agrees to it after the results are released.

Be patient ... alot of students are also waiting for that piece of paper to start on their next task, dream, wish or whatever you call it.

I agree with some, keep your parents out of your guitar/gear equation. So what if you're a student and all that, you have to know you're not the only 1 out there. I could make a bet that the older guys around here had it harder than you by a mile

I got my 1st guitar when i was 18.....long time saving due to rest of salary used for bus stamp and meals. Denied of virtually any musical instruments to learn, reason being waste of time by parents. Now I'm 23, who's there to stop me as long as i fulfil all my duties and responsibilities in the family?

Woodshedding on guitar, doesn't necessarily takes time.....it's more about efficient practicing and dedication.

When i want something i work part time and make money for it, i don't ask money from parents.

Singaporean kids are really spoil.

RoRK: thx for that post of urs. the last few stanzas were meaningful. to me, at least.

You're most welcome.

For what it's worth, my first guitar was a hand-me-down from a brother's friend - a $30+ Congress. After playing it amost daily for a few hours at a time, I received an offer of $250 for it from a very knowledgeable guitarist. The great thing about some acoustic guitars is that they age well with time and frequent playing. Hmm, perhaps I'm digressing.

For now, just stay the course and enjoy yourself with the guitar that you have.

Cheers
RoRK
